Weeks of discussions between the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his American counterpart John Kerry resulted in the following terms for a truce in Syria. This will go into effect on Saturday February 27 subject to acceptance by the various parties to the conflict.
After five years of bloodletting, there is a glimmer of hope that the Syrians' long nightmare may end soon. A truce agreement was announced by Russia and the US today under which a ceasefire will go into effect in Syria on February 27. Humanitarian aid will be delivered to besieged towns and villages. The truce does not extend to such terrorist outfits as Daesh, Jabhat al Nusra, Jaysh al-Islam and Ahrar al-Sham.
As the Syrian army makes steady progress on the ground in Aleppo and elsewhere in the country, Syrian opposition groups and their foreign sponsors conspire to sabotage the peace talks, albeit indirect, in Geneva. Talks were suspended today when opposition groups refused to meet the UN Special envoy, Staffan de Mistura. It was pointless to continue with the charade if no one was talking to each other.
Have the warmongers realized that their plot to overthrow Bashar al Asad by military means is untenable especially in the wake of Russia’s bombing campaign? A series of meetings on Syria’s future give rise to some hope for peace.
Turkey has moved from zero-problem to zero-friendship policy with its neighbors. The only exception is the Zionist regime in Occupied Palestine that had murdered 10 Turkish citizens aboard the Mavi Marmara in May 2010 but it seems all is forgiven now!
Reader Ahmet Bayrakdar expresses deep concerns about Erdogan’s policies in Turkey.
Turkey’s shooting down of a Russian plane over Syria is an act of great provocation. It has increased the threat of global war several notches.
By its own actions, Turkey stands exposed as the terrorists’ air force and conduit for shipping their oil to the international market.
The strategic shift caused in Syria through Russian involvement is self-evident. NATO’s project against Islamic Iran in Syria has collapsed but what are the ramifications beyond Syria?
Russia’s military intervention in Syria is a deliberate act, based on years of planning. President Vladimir Putin solved most of the domestic problems in Russia, rejuvenated the armed forces, ensured security of the “near-abroad” and reached out to Afghanistan to eliminate the terror threat to his country.
Turkey's shooting down of a Russian plane over Syria has dangerously escalated tensions in an already volatile region. Fearing its consequences, Turkey has also requested a meeting of Nato ambassadors. This exposes Nato and its allies' support for the terrorists in Syria. No amount of rhetoric can camouflage this fact...
There are some really scary reports coming out of Moscow about the downing of the Russian plane over the Sinai Peninsula. Two American mercenaries of Colombian origin have been captured by Russian Special Forces in Yemen. They are being flown to Moscow on orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin whose special envoy Mikhail Lesin was found dead in a Washington hotel on November 5. What's going on?
Whatever Russia’s motives in joining the fight against the takfiri terrorists — and these have been dissected endlessly — they have resulted in dramatic changes on the ground in Syria.
It is interesting to note what Russia has achieved in two months that the US and its “coalition partners” could not in a year against the takfiri terrorists.
If Iraqi military claims are true, the takfiri terrorist outfit, Daesh (aka as ISIS/ISIL) may have been dealt a severe blow. The Iraqis said they hit the convoy of takfiri leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as he was heading for a meeting with senior commanders in Anbar Province. The meeting venue was also hit and a number of commanders killed. Bombed by Russia in Syria and hit by the Iraqis, the takfiris are on the run...
It appears that neither Russia or China is prepared to allow NATO countries led by the US to create another Libya-type scenario in Syria. The stakes are too high for both. Given US duplicity in fighting against the takfiri terrorists (actually non-fighting), Russia and China have decided to go after the terrorists for their own reasons. Iran and Hizbullah are also helping the Syrian government to confront the terrorist threat...
Why are the Americans complaining as Russia bombs the takfiri terrorists in Syria? Washington says its favorite terrorists are being bombed. The terrorists have already started fleeing; so much for their bravery. Russia has vowed to intensify attacks and cleanse the throat slitters and organ eaters from the Levant...
The Zionists are great at bullying weaker opponents and then come out thumping their chests. When faced with an equal opponent, they flee. This is what happened over the Mediterranean Sea when six Sukhoi SU-30 Russian jets intercepted for US-supplied Israel F-15s trying to violate Syrian airspace. Instead of putting up a good fight, the Zionists fled. Now that is an interesting development...
With the Muslim world in turmoil, it is easy to forget the wars on Syria and Yemen. The Bani Saud footprint is writ large in both locales...
Russian President Vladimir Putin has served notice that he will not accept the Western engineered war on Syria to overthrow President Bashar al Asad. He has started bombing Western-backed terrorists creating panic in Western capitals...
