The announcement that former British prime minister Tony Blair would be knighted in the New Year’s honors list aroused worldwide loathing and disgust. More than one million people signed a petition demanding this war criminal not be knighted. He was instrumental in unleashing the war on Iraq in 2003.
The neo-cons may be less visible today but they are not inactive. Their disastrous policies have inflicted colossal losses on the US economy but they remain unrepentant. They continue to plow ahead with their evil policies causing immense harm to people in distant lands.
Let us be clear: The military invasion of Afghanistan was not meant to ‘liberate’ Afghan women (whatever that may mean) or bring democracy and education. It was and is an imperialist project in which horrific crimes have been committed against Afghan civilians.
