Panic in US over Chinese security proposal with Russia and Iran

China's security arrangement proposal with Russia and Iran has caused panic among warmongers in Washington DC. The US is definitely on its way out as other powers assert themselves.

A Chinese proposed security arrangement with Iran and Russia has sent shivers down the spine of the warmongers in Washington DC. The proposal was made by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his address to the fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Shanghai, China, on Tuesday May 20. Xi said: “We need to innovate our security cooperation (and) establish new regional security cooperation architecture.”

What this means is that the three countries—China, Iran and Russia—will lead a new security cooperation agreement in which other regional countries will be invited to participate to protect their interests vis-à-vis the US and its European allies.

The proposal made at the CICA summit in Shanghai has signalled that China is becoming more assertive in view of America’s Asia pivot strategy.

The Chinese have correctly understood the implications of America’s Asia Pivot: it is aimed at encircling China. In the broader context it also means that the US will become less interested in direct intervention in the Middle East region where it has suffered repeatedly failures. Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria immediately come to mind.

Another indication of Chinese concern about taking the US threat seriously comes with the $400 billion gas agreement Beijing signed with Russia. The project will span 30 years but given its enormity, both China and Russia are signalling that neither will allow the US to blackmail them.

China’s development needs require massive quantities of gas and oil. Russia is rich in gas and it wants to diversify its outlets given the current standoff with the US over Ukraine. Russia supplies Europe’s gas needs but the Americans are trying to disrupt this.

While such disruption is not possible in the short term because the Europeans cannot find alternative sources for gas supply, the Russians are looking much further ahead both in terms of oil and gas as well as security.

Aware that America is a declining military power, although the American warmongers are loathed to admit this, the Russians are surging ahead with challenging US hegemony globally.

China, too, has now stepped forward and if the three countries are able to forge a security agreement, this will have enormous implications for creating a new multipolar world order. It will also deal a blow to dollar imperialism in the world.
