Mufti Sisi?

Name withheld upon request

Now Egyptian dictator General Sisi wants Muslims to abandon Islamic historical texts. What qualifications does he have to make such pronouncements?

It has become fashionable for secularists to dabble in religious affairs but forbid Islamic scholars from making pronouncements about their misrule. The Egyptian military dictator General el-Sisi is one such creature. In the presence of the Shaykh of al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb, el-Sisi demanded breaking free from texts and ideas that were sacred centuries ago. He was speaking on the occasion of the birthday of the Prophet (pbuh). While el-Sisi did not identify the texts, the silence of Shaykh el-Tayeb at such insults is troubling.
