Yankee imperialism on steroids in Venezuela

Crescent International

Blatant American aggression against Venezuela and kidnapping its president and his wife have evoke worldwide condemnation. Much more must be done to stop US imperialism from destroying the world.

If reports of US forces kidnapping Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, early on Saturday and taking him to the US are true, it is a serious breach of Venezuelan sovereignty.

It is also a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, US president Donald Trump admitted that “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured (sic) and flown out of the Country.”

“This operation was done in conjunction with US Law Enforcement,” Trump said, adding, “Details to follow.”

At a press conference at Mar-a-Lago the same day, Trump said the US will indefinitely run Venezuela until a “proper and judicious transition” occurs, without providing further details.

How else does one describe a deranged person?

The Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, in a voice message broadcast on state television, said that the Venezuelan government does not know the whereabouts of President Maduro and his wife.

Early Saturday morning, Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, came under heavy US airstrikes.

The aerial assault was led by numerous military attack and transport helicopters.

Both military and civilian targets were hit.

According to reports from Caracas, the late revolutionary leader Hugo Chavez’s mausoleum was bombed as was the parliament building.

Power outages affecting multiple neighborhoods were reported following loud explosions.

Venezuela’s defence minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said the country “will prevail … not negotiate … not give up”.

Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello called on citizens to “remain calm” following the US attacks, urging trust in the country’s leadership and armed forces.

“Trust in our leadership, trust in the political and military high command to handle the situation,” Cabello said in an address broadcast nationally.

“Do not make things easier for the invading enemy, the terrorist enemy that cowardly attacked us.”

The Venezuelan government accused the US of attacking civilian and military installations in multiple states.

It condemned Washington’s “military aggression”.

The government of President Maduro had declared ‌a national ‌emergency following a series of attacks on its ports a day earlier.

The Venezuelan government strongly condemned the strikes, calling them a “blatant violation of the United Nations Charter, particularly Articles 1 and 2.”

Caracas said the attacks endanger “the lives of millions of people” and are part of an attempt to seize the country’s strategic rsources, particularly oil and minerals, warning that the effort to break Venezuela’s political independence “will not succeed.”

The statement also recalled that “since 1811, Venezuela has faced and defeated empires.”

In response, Maduro ordered the immediate implementation of all national defense plans and the enforcement of a decree declaring a “state of external emergency across the national territory.”

The government called on “all social and political forces in the country to activate mobilization plans and repudiate this imperialist attack.”

The Bolivarian National Armed Forces, together with civilians and police, have been deployed in coordination to “guarantee sovereignty and peace.”

Venezuela also plans to pursue international recourse, filing complaints with the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and the Non-Aligned Movement, “demanding condemnation and accountability from the US government.”

There has been worldwide condemnation of this latest act of aggression by the Trump regime.

Virtually every country in South America has condemned US aggression against Venezuela.

Aware that they could be the next target of yankee imperialism led by a convicted felon, sex predator and a totally deranged individuals, they cannot remain indifferent to this act of aggression in their neighbourhood.

Russia, China, Iran, Belarus, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and the UN Secretary General Antonio Gueterres among others condemned the Trump regime’s latest act of aggression.

Trump also announced that the US will play a major role in the Venezuelan oil industry as well as in extracting its mineral wealth.

His earlier claims that he was targeting drug traffickers was a bald faced lie and merely a pretext for American aggression.

For several months, Trump has been itching to grab Venezuela’s oil and mineral resources.

Whether he will succeed in his desired resource-grab is open to question.

It would be surprising if the people of Venezuela do not resist yankee imperialism, notwithstanding the presence of such traitors as Maria Machado, a CIA agent, in Venezuela.

According to the Venezuelan constitution, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez automatically takes over in the absence of the president.
