“We are all spies now”: CIA chief

Crescent International

The American spy agency, CIA, is going rogue, officially. It no longer feels the need to indulge in illegal acts covertly; the gloves are off and the whole world will now be under total surveillance. How long before everyone is under US lock down because some warmonger in Washington feels an individual, group or country poses a “threat” to US interests?

CIA Director John Brennan has announced major structuring of the spy agency in ways that will allow the super-spy organization to “cover the entire universe, regionally and functionally.” The Intercept, a web-based news site, reported Brennan telling reporters in a briefing last week.

The out-of-control surveillance and torture practices of the CIA have come under heavy censure in recent years, including the December 2015 Senate torture report. Senator Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat from California, called it a “stain on our values and on our history.”

Despite such censure, the spy agency is not going to be implementing any limits and controls anytime soon to its paranoia run amok.

According to Brennan, the CIA is poised to erase the distinction between spies and analysts at various surveillance centers in order to allow collaboration on terrorism cases.

According to a March 6 article in The New York Times, these integrated centers will address “terrorism, weapons proliferation, the Middle East and other areas with responsibility for espionage operations, intelligence analysis and covert actions.”

Other media outlets, such as The Washington Post, gave additional details: “long-standing divisions focused on Africa, the Middle East and other regions will give way to centers of corresponding geographic boundaries. The Directorates of Intelligence and Operations—as the analysis and spying branches are known—will continue to exist, but function mainly as talent pools: recruiting and training personnel that can be deployed to the new centers.”

In other words, the CIA is girding its loins for Total War 24/7, 360 degrees.

This restructuring will also integrate digital divisions: Brennan announced a new division called the Directorate of Digital Innovation, which will handle the CIA’s cyber-operations, integrating two separate divisions through which the CIA monitors social media and conducts cyber-attacks.

As Brennan mentioned in his address, “We are all spies now”—an admission that the US spy agency and military is now running the country, and the whole world is under martial law.
