The US Senate has confirmed Gina Haspel, who was involved in torturing suspects at a black site in Thailand in 2002, as the new head of CIA. Under her supervision, two detainees in particular, Abu Zubaydah and ‘Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, were waterboarded 83 times in one month. On one occasion when Abu Zubaydah was close to death with froth coming out of his mouth, Haspel mocked him. She later had the videotapes destroyed. She remains a torturer, with or without the videos.
