‘US had planned overthrow of Syrian government long before 2011’ – Assange

Crescent International

Try as they may, the predatory Western powers and their regional puppets--Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Jordan and Israel--cannot hide the fact that the uprising in Syria is a foreign-backed and supported conspiracy. Julian Assanage of WikiLeaks fame has confirmed yet again in his latest book, the WikiLeaks Files, that as early as 2006, the US had planned to overthrow the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

Long before the so-called uprising in Syria erupted in March 2011, the US had already planned to destabilize the country as part of its “regime change” agenda.

While informed observers have always known this through various other sources—General Wesley Clark’s March 7, 2007 interview with ‘Democracy Now’ and Craig Whitlock’s April 17, 2011 article in the Washington Post—Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks has just provided additional information about this sordid drama.

In his co-authored a book, the WikiLeaks Files, Assange reveals how then US ambassador to Syria, William Roebuck in a 2006 cable to Washington outlined plans to overthrow the government of Bashar al Asad.

“That plan was to use a number of different factors to create paranoia within the Syrian government; to push it to overreact, to make it fear there's a coup,” RT quoted Assange on September 9.

Sectarianism was a major part of this plot with Saudi Arabia and Egypt creating tensions between Shias and Sunnis as well as promoting rumors and exaggerations “that are known to be false” against Iran.

Assange pointed out that one particular cable was “quite concerning” as the US plans for the region were “all hanging out” in it. He added that in order to understand what is happening in and around Syria, regional alliances must be examined.

“Part of the problem in Syria is that you have a number of US allies surrounding it, principally Saudi [Arabia] and Qatar that are funneling in weapons. Turkey as well [is] a very serious actor. [They] each have their own hegemonic ambitions in the region. Israel also, no doubt, if Syria [is] sufficiently destabilized, it might be in a position where it can keep the Golan Heights forever, or even advance that territory,” he said.

Crescent International has repeatedly exposed the foreign plot against Syria including a February 2011 meeting in Paris at which Syrian oppositions figures were assured by the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia of all help if they staged an armed uprising.

Present at the meeting in addition to exiled Syrian opposition figures were US ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, then US ambassador to Lebanon Jeffrey Feltmen and then Saudi intelligence chief Bandar bin Sultan.

This conspiracy was revealed by Haytham Manna, head of the Local Coordination Committee for Democratic Change in Syria who was present at th Paris meeting and rejected the armed uprising offer.

Manna felt—quite rightly—that an armed insurrection would undermine the opposition cause but he was overruled. A few weeks later, an armed uprising began in Der‘aa, a non-descript town a few miles from the Jordanian border.

Since the mayhem started in Syria, an estimated 250,000 people have been killed, nearly half of them Syrian soldiers and militias. Millions of others have been displaced from their homes.

All this was done as part of the conspiracy to protect the Zionist regime because Syria is part of the resistance front to Zionist occupation of Lebanon and Syria’s Golan Heights.
