The US continues to behave in a manner that confirms its outlaw status. Its latest outrageous act has been denial of visa to Iran's ambassador-designate to the UN, Hamid Aboutalebi. The warlords in Washington think they have the authority to decide who should be a country's ambassador to the UN. It is time the UN was moved out of New York. The US is unfit to host the world body.

The US has perpetrated another outrageous act by denying visa to Iran’s ambassador-designate Hamid Aboutalebi to the United Nations. Washington should have no such right regardless of its concern about the person’s past history. It is between the country appointing the envoy and the UN.
The US, however, continues to act as an outlaw. White House spokesperson Jay Carney confirmed this when he said today that both the UN and Iran have been told “that we will not issue a visa to Mr. Aboutalebi.”
The White House move came after a series of hostile acts by the US Congress against Iran’s ambassador-designate. On Thursday, the US House of Representatives, a body extremely hostile to Iran, unanimously approved legislation that prevents Aboutalebi from entering the US.
In the Senate, Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz has sponsored a similar bill that was passed by the Democratic-controlled Senate through voice vote on April 7.
Not surprisingly, Iran has reacted angrily to such brazen behaviour by the US Congress that has now been endorsed by the White House. Tehran called the decision unacceptable and said it will follow up on the issue through diplomatic channels at the UN.
Washington’s decision is based on Aboutalebi’s alleged involvement in the takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran during post-revolution incidents in 1979. The den of spies, as the US embassy came to be called, was taken over by revolutionary students in order to prevent the US from undermining the fledgling Islamic State established after the Islamic revolution.
Iran had good reason to be fearful of American designs, with the memory of the August 1953 CIA-engineered coup fresh in their minds. When the den of spies was captured, the revolutionary students retrieved thousands of pages of documents detailing America’s criminal intentions.
With the help of those documents, Iran was able to not only frustrate US designs to overthrow the revolutionary government but also exposed a number of American agents inside Iran.
Aboutalebi has acknowledged that he served as an interpreter for the students that had seized the den of spies otherwise known as the US Embassy in Tehran in 1979. He, denies, however, that he took part in the actual takeover.
The US, however, is overstepping its authority by assuming the right to determine who can or cannot be any country’s ambassador to the UN. The ambassador-designate is being assigned to the UN, not the US.
Aboutalebi has served as ambassador in a number of European countries and has performed his duties admirably.
Ted Cruz has few friends in the Senate but it is quite revealing that Obama finds himself in agreement with this unsavoury character.
