Takfiris on the run?

Crescent International

The takfiri terrorists are facing serious problems these days. The Kurds have proved far more tougher than they had anticipated and now the takfiris are beset with defections. Many senior commanders, aware of the dire straits they are in, have started to desert the group. Can their end be very far?

The takfiris’ military prowess was always exaggerated. This was a deliberate ploy to create an environment of fear in which ordinary people in the US and the rest of the western world could be scared into supporting warmongering policies.

News from Iraq in areas under the takfiris’ control indicates that most top leaders of the terrorist group are on the run. The Baghdad-based Niqash website filed a report yesterday that said the top leadership of ISIS/ISIL has vanished from Mosul, Takrit and parts of Salahuddin province.

Among those that have run away are Ali al-Hamadani, thought to be very close to the group’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as well as another senior leader who was allegedly responsible for al-Baghdadi’s personal protection.

There are several reasons for top takfiri commanders defecting. Many senior commanders have realized that their days are numbered with such huge forces mobilized against them. They have also been offered bribes—money works wonders and proves the mercenary nature of the takfiris.

Over the last week, the takfiris have lost hundreds of fighters—at least 400 in Iraq at the hands of Iraqi security forces as well as locals—and more than 540 in Syria due to a combination of factors. The Syrian losses are the result of fighting in and around the Kurdish town of Kobani as well as international air strikes. The Kurds in Kobani have given a good account of themselves and taken a heavy toll of the takfiris. The Syrian army and air force have also launched major operations and inflicted losses on the takfiris.

There are several reasons for top takfiri commanders defecting. Many senior commanders have realized that their days are numbered with such huge forces mobilized against them. They have also been offered bribes—money works wonders and proves the mercenary nature of the takfiris. It is easy to grab innocent people and slaughter them in public squares like sheep; it is a lot more difficult to fight against trained and determined fighters.

Their initial successes in Mosul last June were the direct result of officers from Saddam’s army that were part of the Iraqi army who conspired with the takfiris to allow them safe entry into the city. The pro-Baathist officers also told soldiers under their command they were on their own and should do whatever they deemed appropriate. Without a command structure, most soldiers simply fled.

Now Baathist officers that joined the takfiris have again run away in light of the military mobilization against them.

There have been reports that several senior takfiri commanders have also been killed in places like Mosul, Takrit and Salahuddin province, almost certainly as part of a campaign to confront these terrorists. The mercenary par excellence, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has reportedly moved large amounts of money out of Iraq and invested with friendly Arab businessmen in various Persian Gulf states.

This money was stolen from Iraqi banks. One wonders what kind of Muslims would steal money. He has also been making money from oil sales, thanks to Turkey’s coopeartion, but all this may be coming to an end as the military situation gets tough.

While the takfiris are on the run, one is reminded of the Beetles’s old song, ‘Band on the Run.’ The British pop group, now long disbanded, was into drugs and group sex. That is what the pop culture of the sixties and seventies was all about. Young impressionable girls were attracted to them. The takfiris are the modern and virulent form of the same phenomenon. The takfiris also attract young impressionable girls luring them into their trap. The Beetles and other pop groups sexually abused young girls; so do the takfiris. In the case of the pop groups, the girls were free to leave after they were used; there is no such option available to the victims of the takfiris.
