Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah condemns ISIS and Western regimes in the Hebdo affair

Crescent International

Hizbullah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah has spoken out forcefully against the takfiris' attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo. At the same time, he condemned Western regimes for facilitating the promotion of these takfiri outfits to advance their own nefarious agenda. He correctly rejected th binary categorization of either being with Hebdo or with the terrorists. Most Muslims condemn both.

On the occasion of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on January 9, 2015, Hizbullah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah delivered a speech in Beirut against the actions of ISIS gunmen that had attacked the Paris-based magazine, Charlie Hebdo two days earlier. Seyyed Nasrallah condemned ISIS, stating that the takfiri group was committing crimes against humanity that threatened the Prophet (pbuh), the holy Quran, and Islam. The Hizbullah chief clearly outlined his strong opposition to the ISIS takfiris, whose actions are used as a pretext to justify Western military interventions, fascist xenophobia, and political oppression of Islam.

While he did not directly mention the Charlie Hebdo incident, he said that those who behead and slaughter others have done more to harm Islam than anyone else in history. Seyyed Nasrallah said: “The behavior of the takfiri groups that claim to follow Islam have distorted Islam, the Qur’an and the Muslim Ummah more than Islam’s enemies ... who insulted the prophet in films... or drew cartoons of the prophet.”

“Today I tell you very clearly that those groups pose a threat to countries of the region for today and tomorrow. It became clear that those groups pose a threat to Islam itself as a religion and a mission, to the Messenger and to the Quran.”

The fearless and popular Hizbullah chief who has taken on the Zionists, added that the terrorist groups offend Islam when they "behead thousands of people and kill thousands of people in Yemen for commemorating the Prophet's birth anniversary."

"Those offensives are supported by being easily circulated across several geographical locations, starting from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, to the states that facilitated visas for terrorists to travel into our country," the Hizbullah chief declared. The comments helped distinguish between ISIS takfiris and the US and NATO-led occupation of Muslim countries. He condemned the actions of the ISIS goons, but also took the US and Europe to task for enabling, supporting, and training the takfiris wreaking havoc on the Muslim world.

While the Western media reported excerpts of his speech, noting his condemnation of ISIS’ actions, they also misrepresented his position as a sectarian one rather than one based on principle. Resorting to typical distortions, the Western media declared that Seyyed Nasrallah belonged to the “Shiite” Hizbullah group while ISIS was “Sunni,” and that Shi’is do not take the defamation of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as seriously as do the Sunnis.

This is completely false. All Muslims regardless of their School of Thought (sect) have great respect for the noble Messenger of Allah (pbuh). This sectarian characterization of violence allows the media to use incidents involving the takfiris to continue to demonize Islam.
