Resistance economy key to Iran’s success – Rahbar

Editor

The Rahbar, Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei of Iran has repeatedly drawn attention to the importance of developing a ‘Resistance economy’. This includes reliance on indigenous talent and production to eliminate the need for imports or external support.

The expression “Resistance Economy” has become an important part of political discourse in the Islamic Republic. The Rahbar, Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has repeatedly drawn attention to it to tackle the country’s economic problems. He stressed it again in an address on March 20 marking Nowruz, the new Iranian year.

He reminded officials and the people that “appropriate and decisive” economic actions by the government and people would influence other issues such as social, moral, and cultural ones as well as social maladies.

What does “Resistance Economy” mean? This is an economic model in which reliance is placed on domestic resources and production. Political independence means little if a country is not economically independent. While we live in an inter-dependent world, no country can maintain political independence and be free to formulate its own policies to benefit its people unless it has economic independence. Western financial institutions that enslave countries by sucking up their resources to enrich the top 1% of the world’s population at the expense of the 99% must be kept at bay.

Islamic Iran is a resource-rich country. In addition to oil and gas, it has vast mineral wealth. This needs to be harnessed for the benefit of the people. Further, if the large pool of indigenous talent is utilized to produce innovative products, the country can be made self-sufficient, and therefore, free from foreign coercion and blackmail.
