South Africa has taken Israel to two International Courts--the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The expected benefits from these are not going to come to fruition simply because these institutions are not set up to deliver justice to the oppressed people.
What is likely to happen, and is fast becoming a reality, is that under the cover of South Africa leading the charge against Israel, Pretoria is going to fool the world.
It will continue to commit human rights violations which no one will believe due to this Israel-ICC-ICJ cover.
On May 11, there were violent and unlawful actions by the South African Police Service (SAPS), disrupting a peaceful protest at Loftus Stadium.
The protest was organized to demand accountability for Israel’s ongoing violations of international law and human rights, and isolate it.
Once again, on 28 March 2025, a peaceful protester who was exercising the right to free speech and assembly was arrested while participating in a peaceful protest for the freedom of the Palestinian people.
This was not the first time that demonstrators exercising their constitutional rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly were intimidated, unlawfully arrested and subjected to the heavy-handed response of the police.
Some people, especially those Muslims who have bought into the façade of democracy, have short memories but we remember clearly what they did in September 2002 when one of the chief zionist architects Shimon Peres was in Johannesburg.
Much earlier, on February 11, 2003, as the US imperial machine was preparing to roll into Iraq, tens of thousands of Muslims prioritized watching the Australia/Pakistan match.
In the meantime, one of two lonely protestors manhandled by SAPS outside the Wanderers cricket stadium went unreported.
These are direct attacks on democratic principles that undermine the values South Africa is seen to uphold in the global struggle for justice should be an eye-opener.
They have happened on the watch of the African National Congress, with the latter two above having happened after it won a two-thirds majority in the general elections.
What is likely to follow after the latest attack are demands for the immediate release of all activists, all charges against them dropped without delay and an investigation into the conduct of SAPS officers carried out impartially.
The farce of democracy will remain an unspoken matter, at best.
Or weak criticism may arise into the machinations of the system.
This is likely to follow and in all likelihood, that will be initiated by a Muslim ward councilor in the area who will be puppeteered so that the matter will be controlled and it will remain in closed and quiet quarters.
These types are likely to try and use such events for political expediency due to the waning support of the ANC.
People should not fall into this ANC-DA (Democratic Alliance) dichotomy, especially now that there is a Government of National Unity.
SAPS have always been protecting the zionists and imperialists.
During every protest outside their embassies and missions in South Africa, the place is packed with SAPS, as if there is no crime taking place anywhere else in South Africa and the only criminals are the peaceful protestors.
The picture should become clearer when one adds the fact that South Africa continues to be complicit in the Israeli genocide through the supply of coal, the fact that the South African Embassy in Tel Aviv remains open, that the Israeli Embassy in Pretoria remains open.
