Hizbullah, the Islamic resistance movement, has confirmed in a brief statement issued today that its leader, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah was martyred in an Israeli air strike on Friday September 27.

He was 64 and had led the movement since his predecessor, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi was martyred by an Israeli missile strike on his car in March 1992. His wife and child were also martyred in the strike.

Here is the Hizbullah statement issued today (September 28):

“His Eminence, the Master of Resistance, the righteous servant, has passed away to be with his Lord and to His pleasure as a great martyr,

“His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hizbullah, has joined his great, immortal martyr comrades whose path he led for nearly thirty years, during which he led them from victory to victory.

“We offer our condolences to … Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei, may his shadow endure, the great authorities, the mujahideen, the believers, the nation of resistance, our patient and struggling Lebanese people, the entire Islamic nation, all the free and oppressed people in the world, and his honourable and patient family.

“We offer our condolences and congratulations to his fellow martyrs who joined his pure and holy procession following the treacherous Zionist raid on the southern suburb.

“The leadership of Hizbullah pledges … that it will continue its jihad in confronting the enemy, in support of Gaza and Palestine, and in defense of Lebanon and its steadfast and honorable people.

“To the honorable mujahideen and the victorious and triumphant heroes of the Islamic Resistance, you are the trust of the beloved martyr Sayyid [Nasrallah].”

Following the massive bombing of residential buildings in Beirut’s Dahiyeh district on September 27, the Rahbar Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei of Iran issued a statement.

While he did not mention the martyrdom of Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, he referred to it indirectly saying, “the zionist criminals should know that they are too small to cause significant damage to the strong construction of Hizbullah in Lebanon”.

The Rahbar went on: “By the power of God, Lebanon will make the aggressor, evil and disgraceful enemy regret” its actions.

He said, “It is obligatory for all Muslims to stand with the people of Lebanon and proud Hizbullah with their resources and help them in confronting the usurping, cruel and evil regime.”

The zionists’ criminal act will have enormous implications for the region.

Benjamin Netanyahu wants to escalate to the point where the US will be forced to get involved directly.

He knows he cannot win either in Gaza or Lebanon without direct American involvement.

In fact, US involvement is no guarantee of success either.

Given Israel’s latest murderous attacks, the situation is likely to escalate.

While Seyyed Nasrallah’s martyrdom is a big blow to the Islamic resistance movement, it has not damaged it to the point to cause incapacitation.

Hizbullah continued its strikes against Israeli targets even today despite the great setback.

Reaction from the broader Axis of Resistance is awaited.
