Donald Trump is acting as a bulldozer demolishing everything that comes in his way. He has especially targeted Muslims barring citizens of seven Muslim majority countries to enter the US as well as renewed his pledge to build a wall along the US-Mexico border.
Within days of his inauguration, US President Donald Trump launched wars on several fronts by issuing executive orders. His first assault was on what has come to be called Obamacare. He cut funding for healthcare that former President Barack Obama had struggled to provide to poor families.
Soon thereafter, Trump signed another executive order reversing Obama’s ban on the Keystone and Dakota Access pipelines that had faced stiff opposition from Native Americans and the environmentalists. The pipelines are environmentally harmful but Trump rejects such arguments. He thinks global warming is a myth and environmental pollution is a price that ought to be paid to furhter enrich those who raped the environment to begin with.
Two other executive orders followed in quick succession. Most commentators had hoped that Trump the president would act differently from Trump the candidate. Not so, as his decision to build the wall along the US-Mexico border and banning entry into the US from seven majority Muslim countries shows.
The seven countries are: Iraq, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Iran, and Sudan. A cursory glance at the list shows that five out of these seven countries are currently under attack or have been attacked by the US; the sixth — Iran — is being threatened. Leaked documents from administration officials show that the CIA plans to revive “black sites” where terror suspects — yes, suspects, not proved guilty in any court of law — could be held without charge or trial. George W. Bush had initiated these barbaric practices, Obama continued them, and now Trump seeks to institutionalize them.
