Can South African Muslims Unchain Their Brains?

Mohamed Ousman

As zionist Israel runs low on ammunition killing and maiming Palestinians by the hundreds of thousands, India, alongwith the US, Germany and a host of others rush weapons to the zionist entity. A weapons' laden ship from India has docked in Durban en route to Israel. What are South Africa's Muslims going to do about it?

As this article is being typed, a weapons laden ship is en route from India to Israel.

The ship is scheduled to dock in Durban at 2130 GMT. That’s right – South Africa has enabled Israeli genocide, yet again!

It is obvious that the military actions of Ansarullah against zionist Israel have forced the routing of this ship around the Cape instead of through the Red Sea.

Abu Obeida, the spokesman for Izz al-Din al-Qassam Martyr Brigades said, “We say to history, with bitterness and pain, and before all the children of our Ummah: O leaders of this Islamic and Arab Ummah, O its elites, its great parties, and its scholars: you are our adversaries before God, the Almighty.”

Yet, few Muslims would seriously reflect on who are the leaders of this Islamic Ummah? Who are its elites, its great parties, and its scholars? Even less Muslims would care enough to reflect on the realities closer to home and dare rock the boat if needed.

Abu Obeida, continued, “you are our adversaries before God, the Almighty.”

And just why did Abu Obeida say this?

Simply because, “our enemy is supplied without interruption by the most powerful oppressive forces in the world, who send shipments of arms and ammunition, while the regimes and powers of our Ummah look on passively as their brothers on the front line [defending Islam] are massacred by the tens of thousands, subjected to starvation, deprived of water and medicine.”

The status quo clergy-class in South Africa raves about South Africa being the one place on earth where Muslims are the most free to live up to their Islamic responsibility.

Swallowing this narrative, the overwhelming majority of South African Muslims seem to think they are God’s Chosen People, His gift to humanity!

However, this status quo clergy-class declaration needs to be thoughtfully scrutinized using the Qur’anic lens in order to determine whether this statement is true.

According to very conservative figures, there are approximately two-million Muslims in South Africa who are also blessed with immense resources running into the mega billions of Rands, (if not dollars)!

A key question that should be on the minds of those who are concerned about Islam and adherence to it is: How come the status quo leadership of South African Muslims with all the freedom to practice Islam are incapable of producing a measly 10,000-20,000 like Ansarullah or a measly 50,000-60,000 like Hizbullah?

It should be noted that 20 years ago, Ansarullah had between 1,000-3,000 Mujahideen.

After just two decades, more recent figures suggest the Ansarullah have between 10,000–20,000 Mujahideen and over 100,000 loyal supporters.

Similarly, 20 years ago, Hizbullah had between 6,000-10,000 Mujahideen. Today they have between 50,000–60,000 Mujahideen and over 100,000 loyal supporters.

(The above figures are based on arrogant western speculation, the Islamic Resistance does not disclose these numbers).

While South African Muslims consider themselves to be blessed with the ability to practice Islam openly, a critical misunderstanding regarding the comprehensive nature of Islam persists particularly among the clergy-class.

This misunderstanding is cascaded via state and non-state institutions throughout the Muslim community, all the way to the child in school.

The prevailing notion is that Islam is a religion confined solely to the home and the mosque.

This is a grave misinterpretation!

This notion of a pygmy Islam has entrenched leaderlessness among the South African Muslims and the resultant inability to cultivate individuals committed to the struggle for truth and justice—true mujahideen such as those in the Islamic Resistance.

“Freedom does not consist in turning your faces towards the east or towards the west; true freedom consists in believing in Allah and the Last Day, the angels, the Book and the Prophets, and in giving away one’s property in love of Him to one’s kinsmen, the orphans, the poor and the wayfarer, and to those who ask for help, and in freeing the necks of slaves, and in establishing Prayer and dispensing the Zakah. True freedom is attained by those who are faithful to their promise once they have made it and by those who remain steadfast in adversity and affliction and at the time of battle (between Truth and falsehood). Such are the truthful ones; such are the God-fearing.” (The Ascendant Qur’an, Surat Al Baqarah, verse 177.)

Allah’s unmistakable Words powerfully illustrate that true freedom is a holistic commitment to faith, social justice, economic responsibility, steadfastness in the face of adversity, and unwavering commitment to truth, even in conflict.

This is not a private faith. It is a system of governance for humankind.

Muslims must mature beyond the confines of personal piety and embrace Islam as the complete socio-political-economic system that it was Divinely intended to be.

In the absence of this maturity, Islam will remain practically illusive while Muslims will be hoodwinked by co-opted leadership that maintains the status quo.

The result will be the perpetuation of “look on passively”.

Being passive includes being busy/pre-occupied with many acts such as banging pots, painting walls and faces, flying flags, kites and balloons, baking cakes, playing padel, unending walks and motorcades, etc. albeit in the name of Palestine.

At what stage does realization of the fact that every cent wasted on the above activities choreographed by the co-opted leadership that maintains the status quo constitutes a cent taken away from the Islamic Resistance?

Unless the very constitution of what passive means is redefined?

The weapons’ laden ship en route from India to Israel would by now have docked in Durban courtesy of the African National Congress (ANC)-led Government of National Unity.

Have no doubt that the ANC will maximize political propaganda mileage out of the International Court of Justice statement that “a judgment on whether Israel is committing genocide in Gaza is unlikely before the end of 2027 at the earliest.”

Similarly, it will maximize coal exports which have been sustaining Israeli occupation and genocide.

Added to these is the consideration of how freely and with impunity zionist genocidists move in and out of South Africa, what range of freedom to practice Islam in South Africa will the leadership of South African Muslims inspire them to pursue!
