Al-Qaeda leader who wasn’t: the shameful ordeal of Abu Zubaydah

Rebecca Gordon

Rajab 24, 14372016-05-01

Abu Zubaydah was never a member of al Qaeda and had nothing to do with 911 yet he was accused by the likes of Rumsfled and Bush of being al Qaeda’s number 2. He was tortured and waterboarded 183 times, the highest of any prisoner based on false allegations. US presidential candidates want to continue these practices!

How Pakistan’s socio-political culture breeds corruption

Shahida Wizarat

Rajab 24, 14372016-05-01

It is completely false to claim that Pakistan has a democracy. A mafia paid by foreign powers, is holding the country hostage. Unless these traitors are apprehended, the country will not make progress.

New global architecture emerges out of ME chaos

Zafar Bangash

Jumada' al-Akhirah 23, 14372016-04-01

Major changes are underway in global politics as the US-led unipolar world comes to an end. A multipolar world is emerging in which new more robust players are active. Islamic Iran is a central component of this new arrangement.

Bani Saud’s atrocious human rights record

Tahir Mustafa

Rabi' al-Thani 22, 14372016-02-01

The Bani Saud have unleashed a reign of terror against their own people as well as foreign domestic workers. There is no uniform law that applies to all equally. It is applied at the whim of the judges!

The AKP’s reckless foreign policies

Ahmet Aslan

Rabi' al-Awwal 20, 14372016-01-01

Turkey has moved from zero-problem to zero-friendship policy with its neighbors. The only exception is the Zionist regime in Occupied Palestine that had murdered 10 Turkish citizens aboard the Mavi Marmara in May 2010 but it seems all is forgiven now!

Why the Chechen liberation movement failed

Our Own Correspondent

Rabi' al-Awwal 20, 14372016-01-01

The Chechen liberation war has started with great hopes in 1994 but the intrusion of Wahhabism into this predominantly spiritually inclined society destroyed all hopes. Today, Chechen independence is a pipedream.

Putin’s initiative for global peace

Mirza Aslam Beg

Safar 19, 14372015-12-01

Russia’s military intervention in Syria is a deliberate act, based on years of planning. President Vladimir Putin solved most of the domestic problems in Russia, rejuvenated the armed forces, ensured security of the “near-abroad” and reached out to Afghanistan to eliminate the terror threat to his country.

US exerts nuclear pressure on Pakistan

Waseem Shehzad

Muharram 19, 14372015-11-01

Some commentators have described Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Washington (October 21–23) as a huge mistake. It is not difficult to see why. Smoke signals from the capital of the great Satan clearly indicated trouble ahead and it came aplenty so the question is, why did the “Lion of Punjab” (Mian Sahib to his buddies and admirers) still undertake the trip?

Clear understanding of events essential for Muslims

Our Own Correspondent

Muharram 19, 14372015-11-01

The politics of takfir (excommunication) in the contemporary Muslim world is at its peak because of the subtle sophisticated promotion of the phenomenon by external forces. This does not mean that takfir has not been known in Islamic history; it existed and still does in all major religions.

Crescent International

Dhu al-Hijjah 17, 14362015-10-01

International Law Professor Francis Boyle says the Pentagon’s new Law of War Manual (LOWM) sanctioning nuclear attacks and the killing of civilians, “reads like it was written by Hitler's Ministry of War.” ...

Canadian election: Is strategic voting really strategic?

Ahmad Khawaja

Dhu al-Hijjah 17, 14362015-10-01

There is a notion that Muslims would be better served by voting strategically. This means voting for a party not to your liking in order to defeat one that you even dislike more. Does this really make sense? ...

What role for Muslims in the Canadian elections?

Tahir Mahmoud

Dhu al-Hijjah 17, 14362015-10-01

The October 19 federal election is likely to be the most crucial for Muslims in Canada. While no party represents their interests, they have a choice about the least detrimental to their interests...

The Iran nuclear file: perspectives from Tehran

Zafar Bangash

Dhu al-Qa'dah 17, 14362015-09-01

When the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between the Islamic Re-public and the P5+1 group of countries (the US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany) was agreed in Vienna on July 14, Western media outlets immediately re-ported that there were “celebrations” in Tehran. The BBC as usual led the pack. Conversely, opponents of the deal were dubbed as “hardliners” whose personal in-terests would be affected if it was approved and implemented.

Background to the Russia-Iran S-300 deal

Dmitry Shlapentokh

Dhu al-Qa'dah 17, 14362015-09-01

Will the long-delayed Russian supply of S-300 surface-to-air missiles to Iran ever near resolution? A large delegation of Iranian defence officials was in Moscow to attend the International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS) air show in the last week of August. The show is held every two years at the Ramenskoye Airport 40km (25 miles) southeast of Moscow. The Iranian offi-cials also had discussions with their Russian counterparts about the delivery of the S-300 systems for which a contract was signed in 2007. Dmitry Shla-pentokh provides background to the Russia-Iran S-300 deal.

Is there an ideology of Bushism?

Eric Walberg

Dhu al-Qa'dah 17, 14362015-09-01

Until recently, Bushism referred only to George W. Bush’s infamous malaproprisms, such as “they misunderestimated me,” “make the pie higher.” As Americans gear up for the 2016 presidential elections, it is coming to mean something completely dif-ferent. Two dynasties are competing for the presidency. Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush will most likely face off, the former the spouse of the popular Bill Clinton (1992–2000), the latter, the younger brother of the now reviled George Bush junior (2001–2008), herein Bush II — both sons of George H.W. Bush senior (vice presi-dent 1980–1987, president 1988–1991).

Hanan al-Harazi, Vanessa Beeley

Shawwal 15, 14362015-08-01

“Yemeni people are not bad people, they are good people. They want to be respected; they want their sovereignty to be respected. We did not wage war, it was imposed upon us. Our issue was an internal one and it would have been sorted out internally.” –Yemeni refugee Hanan al-Harazi

Egypt’s women under siege: pre and post-revolution gender inequality and abuse

Vanessa Beeley

Shawwal 15, 14362015-08-01

“It is a shameful state we have created where a victim chooses to en-dure the pain and suffering, silenced by fear that judgment will come before justice.” –Aysha Taryam

Tahir Mahmoud

Ramadan 14, 14362015-07-01

Omar Khadr has finally won freedom, thanks to the dogged determination of his lawyers Dennis Edney and Nate Whittling. It wasn’t easy; the Harper regime fought them tooth and nail but the courts finally sided with Omar Khadr.

What post-conflict Syria can learn from Lebanon

A Contributor from Toronto

Sha'ban 14, 14362015-06-01

Sectarianism was never a major factor in the Syrians’ identity. It is being thrust upon it with the rise of Daesh and other terrorist outfits, instigated by the Najdi Bedouins and their tribal allies.

Ayesha Alam

Rajab 12, 14362015-05-01
