Calls to boycott Hajj are getting louder and more widespread. These have to do with the Saudis’ belligerent policies such as in Yemen killing innocent people as well as the Saudis’ terrible conduct at home.
Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi is an internationally renowned scholar. He is also head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars. Yet at the behest of the Egyptian dictator, General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Interpol on December 5 issued an arrest warrant against the Sheikh. Will Interpol act on it and if so, what ramifications will it have?
Shaykh el-Qaradawi continues to grab headlines. His latest announcement about resigning from the advisory Committee of Ulama at Al-Azhar has been welcomed by most sincere Muslims. He resigned because he accused Al-Azhar and its shaykh of failing to condemn the military coup and its massacres of the Egyptian people. Muslims, however, have questioned el-Qaradawi's sectarian outbursts and his acceptance of patronage of the Qatari amir.
If the ulama adhere to the Qur’an and the Sunnah, they are a blessing but unfortunately many of them have succumbed to the temptations of the dunya, as Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaradawi’s recent behaviour has shown.
The ulama are supposed to be inheritors of the Prophets but only if they adhere to the divine commands. When they fall for worldly temptations, they become a curse. This is what appears to have happened to Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, a well-known alim, who has now joined the hate-spewing Saudis in spreading sectarianism.
Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaradawi has a long list of accomplishments as scholar, speaker and struggler but his recent position has stunned many in the Ummah. How could he, of all people, be advocating civil war among Muslims?
