Victory for Islamic Resistance in Palestine

Editor

The mismatch between Zionist Israel’s military arsenal and the Islamic resistance movement comprising Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad could not be greater. Most Israeli weapons are US-supplied including the multi-billion-dollar Iron Dome. Hamas and Islamic Jihad have no such protective dome. They have thousands of rockets but generally lack sophistication although they are improving rapidly.

Yet for 12 days, the Islamic resistance did not buckle under relentless Israeli bombardment that targeted primarily Gaza’s civilian population and infrastructure. True, Zionist Israel killed more than 280 civilians in Gaza alone, half of them women and children, but killing civilians proves nothing, except the perpetrator’s barbarism. The Zionists failed to subdue the Islamic resistance as Benjamin Netanyahu repeatedly threatened. Israeli rulers, military and civilian, perpetrated war crimes for which they must be held accountable.

The much-vaunted Israeli military’s ground offensive against Gaza also did not materialize despite amassing hundreds of tanks at its borders. The Zionists got cold feet because military commanders warned the political leaders that they could not manage both an internal uprising and an invasion of Gaza. The resistance created conditions that the Zionists, despite their massive firepower, could not confront. Palestinians were united in pursuit of their legitimate struggle for liberation.

Like all colonial entities, Zionist Israel has also divided the Palestinians placing them in separate categories and ghettoes. Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and in 1948 Palestine were hitherto cut off from each other.

Those living in 1948 Palestine (aka as 1948 Green line) were sold the fiction of ‘Israeli citizenship’ but in reality, they were treated as fourth class citizens. Israel has always been a racist society, reaffirmed by its nation-state law of July 2018 which declared it is a ‘state only for the Jews’!

Like the Hindu caste system, Israeli racism is also vicious. At the top of the Zionist racist pyramid are Askhenazi (white European/North American) Jews followed by Sephardic Jews (of Middle Eastern origin). In the third category are Falasha (African) Jews although they face discrimination because of their skin colour and are not considered proper Jews. Palestinians are at the bottom of this racist pyramid. Always discriminated against, they were attacked by Zionist squatters (aka settlers) during last month’s Israeli bombing of Gaza but the Palestinians were not cowed. They have now been arrested, en masse, proving yet again the racist nature of the Zionist entity.

Gaza, the tiny sliver of land, besieged from all sides and cut off from other parts of Palestine as well as the rest of the world, is an open-air prison. Nothing is allowed in without Israeli approval. Food supplies to Gaza are severely restricted as are fuel, medicines and spare parts for electrical and water treatment plants. Israel has limited food intake of Gazans to 2,279 calories. Gaza’s hospitals lack essential medicines.

Palestinians on the West Bank have been living under military occupation since 1967. The 600,000 illegal Zionist squatters use 90% of West Bank’s water resources leaving only 10% for the 2.8 million Palestinians for drinking purposes and agriculture. The heavily-armed Zionist thugs also frequently attack Palestinians, even running them over with their vehicles.

The Zionists openly declare that Palestinians are not their equal. They assert that all non-Jews—goyim in their parlance—are not equal to even their fingernails. Such racism is taught in Israeli schools. Not surprisingly, Israeli children grow up viewing Palestinians as subhuman. The humiliation to which Palestinians are subjected at military checkpoints is scandalous. Israeli soldiers routinely shoot Palestinians including children without facing any consequences.

Israel’s latest onslaught on Gaza launched on May 10 was preceded by weeks of Zionist attacks on Masjid al Aqsa in the month of Ramadan (April 13 – May 12) as well as the settlers’ push to evict Palestinian families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah in Al-Quds (East Jerusalem). Hundreds of Palestinians were injured, two youths were blinded by Israel’s use of rubber-coated steel bullets. Israeli police also repeatedly invaded the sacred space inside Masjid al Aqsa firing tear gas, stun grenades and bullets. Zionist squatters were given a free hand to attack Palestinian worshippers.

After repeated Zionist attacks Hamas issued an ultimatum to the Tel Aviv regime to get its attack dogs out of Masjid al Aqsa and the noble Sanctuary within one hour or face the consequences. The Zionists arrogantly brushed this off. When the time expired, Hamas fired dozens of rockets at Israeli installations, stunning the arrogant occupiers. The Zionists unleashed their bombing campaign at civilian targets in Gaza. Hamas called on the Palestinians everywhere to rise up against the occupiers whether in the West Bank, Al-Quds (Jerusalem) or inside 1948 Palestine. The Palestinians immediately responded to this call.

The Israeli military used warplanes, missiles and artillery to attack residential buildings in Gaza. Between May 10 and 20, six apartment buildings, all iconic structures, were destroyed by the Zionists. Eight hospitals and clinics were also bombed. Additionally, more than 1,000 houses were destroyed and another 1,800 rendered uninhabitable, according to Gaza’s ministry of housing.

The Zionists also murdered nearly 280 civilians, among them 66 children and 41 women. These constitute war crimes. Despite such barbarism, the Zionist war criminals failed to achieve any of their military or political objectives.

Instead, Hamas and Islamic Jihad were able to hit a number of military and economic installations inside the illegal entity imposing a new reality on the Zionists. The oil pipeline and storage facility at Asqalaan (Ashkelon) was hit as were “at least six airbases” including Hatzerim and several Iron Dome batteries. No place in Israel was outside the range of Islamic resistance rockets. Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv as well as Ramon airport in the south were shut down. This was the first time that Ben Gurion Airport was closed for air traffic during Israel’s assault on Gaza.

Faced with such determined resistance, the Zionists were forced to announce an “unconditional” ceasefire. Not surprisingly, the Islamic resistance declared this a great victory. While the Zionists tried to hide their humiliation through bravado, tens of thousands of Palestinians came out in the streets to celebrate their victory shouting, ‘Allahu Akbar’ (Allah is the greatest) and ‘Alhamdulillah’ (All praise to Allah). In Al Quds (Jerusalem), the sky was lit with fireworks.

By its steadfast determination, the Islamic resistance has changed the balance of power in the region. Countdown to the Zionists’ downfall has begun.
