US to continue pressuring Asian countries on China

On July 20 PressTV reported that “Beijing’s embassy in Myanmar says the United States is resorting to disgusting actions aimed at containing China by tarnishing its image and driving a wedge between the country and its neighbors over the disputed South China Sea and Hong Kong. The Chinese mission in Yangon said in a statement on Sunday [July 19] that Washington was outrageously smearing China by falsely claiming that Beijing was undermining the sovereignty of its Southeast Asian neighbors.”

As US-China tensions continue to escalate, Washington is likely to increase pressure on Asian countries to sideline China economically.

Due to China’s importance for global trade, such politically motivated moves are likely to harm the overall global economy. Moreover, they are likely to turn Asian countries against the US rather than China.

China is a natural trading partner for most developing economies in Asia. It will be difficult for the US to strongarm Asian countries to not do business with China.
