Toronto streets packed with demonstrators demanding immediate ceasefire in Gaza

Birds eye view of the historic rally in Toronto, Saturday November 4.

People worldwide have woken up to the barbarism of the zionist regime in Occupied Palestine.

To express revulsion at such barbarism, they have come out in the streets in their hundreds of thousands.

Toronto was no exception.

On Saturday November 4, the streets Toronto were packed with demonstrators.

They came from all walks of life and backgrounds.

While spearheaded by the Palestine Youth Movement (PYM), it was backed and supported by other students, labour organizations as well as many Jewish groups.

Looking at the faces of rally participants, they reflected the global diversity of people from all countries.

They were united in their demands: immediate ceasefire and opening of borders to supply humanitarian aid to the long-besieged people of Gaza.

These simple demands have put the people in Canada and indeed in the US, Britain, France, Germany and many other European countries in direct conflict with the policies being pursued by these regimes.

The regimes all oppose a ceasefire even while issuing mealy-mouthed slogans about not harming civilians and babies.

Their hypocrisy can be smelled miles away.

Israel's relentless bombardment of innocent civilians, most of them women and children, has exposed the ugly face of zionist fascism.

Israel is guilty of perpetrating a genocide and committing war crimes.

The western regimes are complicit in these crimes.

The masses in these countries, whether in Canada, the US, Britain, France, Germany and most other European countries, have challenged their respective regimes' policies.

The massive rallies held in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver, Washington DC, New York, London and many other cities worldwide are proof of the rejection of the policy pursued by the western regimes.

Gaza and Palestine are no longer the concern only of the long-oppressed Palestinian people.

Palestine has been thrust into the global limelight once again despite these regimes trying for decades to push it into the background.

Whether they like it or not, Palestine is the issue.

Through their sacrifices and courage, the Palestinians have forced the issue on to the global agenda.

It will have to be addressed sooner rather than later.

There is no escaping this reality.

The rallies worldwide especially in cities like Toronto, Washington DC and New York are proof of this reality.

No amount of obfuscation of the facts can deny this reality.

The masses have woken up and spoken with their feet.

"From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," as the most popular slogan in these rallies reminds people.
