The Ascendant Qur’an

Muslim Mahmood

Allah (swt) gave me a wonderful opportunity to finish reading the first volume of the tafsir, The Ascendant Qur’an: Realigning Man to the Divine Power Culture. What a profound tafsir it is and truly insightful, contemporary, powerful, and a must read for every justice-centered person (or seeker). This tafsir has been compiled by a mufassir, Imam Muhammad al-‘Asi, “who has an excellent grasp of both Arabic and English, and has been immersed in the study of the Qur’an all his life.” And it is a journey worth taking again. The bottom line is that “the pacifist approach to studying the Qur’an must give way to a more dynamic understanding in order to facilitate the desired transformational change, first in our lives and then in society.”

Now I am into the second volume, which is already spellbinding. I have reached the topics about the Central Ummah and realizing the true role of the qiblah by cleansing it from racial and cultural ownership. Also instructive is the relationship between sabr and salah, “O You who are committed to Allah! Seek aid in steadfast patience and salah; for behold, Allah is with those who are patient in adversity” (2:153).

The Ascendant Qur’an: Realigning Man to the Divine Power Culture is another wonderful addition to the exegesis of the magnificent Qur’an.
