Talk Of Regional Reset Amid Islamic Resistance

Yusuf Dhia-Allah

The Islamic resistance has not only thrust Palestine back into the forefront of global discourse but has also demolished many long-held myths, including zionist ‘invincibility’. True, the Palestinians have paid a very heavy price but freedom and dignity demand no less. No people have ever won freedom without great sacrifices.

Events are moving fast. The 20-point plan presented by US President Donald Trump with the indicted war criminal Benjamin Mileikowsky (aka Netanyahu) standing next to him on September 29 has taken centre stage but that is not the only game in town. It is in fact an admission of Israeli defeat. What the zionists failed to achieve through military might is being attempted through the so-called peace plan.

The most heavily-armed and ruthless military machine in the region failed to subdue a few thousand lightly-armed Islamic fighters in two years speaks volumes for the change that has occurred. It has also demonstrated, yet again, that Imaan (faith-commitment) is a far superior weapon than military hardware. This is a point that neither the zionists nor their western backers will ever understand.

Let us recall what has happened in the two-year period since Al Aqsa Flood was launched on October 7, 2023. These not only reflect the mindset of the aggressors but the paradigm in which Islamic resistance fighters operate.

The war criminals’ plan was to demoralize the resistance through the assassination of its top leaders and force them to give up the struggle. This has not happened despite senior leaders of Hamas, Hizbullah and many leading commanders of Iran being assassinated. The list is long.

On January 2, 2024, senior Hamas leader, Saleh Al-Arouri was martyred in an Israeli drone strike on the southern suburb of Beirut. Seven months later (July, 2024), Hamas military commander Mohammad Deif was martyred in a missile strike in Gaza. He had assumed command following the martyrdom of Mohammed Shehade.

Then on July 31, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was martyred while visiting Tehran. This followed the martyrdom of several of his family members in Gaza, including his three sons, four grandchildren and a sister.

The zionist war crime in the capital city of Iran was a huge provocation and a clear violation of international law, for what it’s worth. Such high profile assassinations of Palestinian leaders including Yahya Sinwar (October 19) were meant to sent a message that the Israeli war machine is unstoppable. That it can target Palestinians anywhere in the world.

Far from discouraging Palestinians from continuing their struggle for freedom, the martyred leaders have become icons of resistance. They will go down in history as noble warriors who did not flinch from sacrificing their own lives for the sake of their people and the struggle for freedom.

The Guardian newspaper’s headline captured his true status: “Why Sinwar’s ‘warrior death’ will win him martyr status in Gaza and beyond.” The sub-heading was equally effusive in his praise: “Intrigue surrounds the Hamas leader’s defiant final moments, but an exalted afterlife as Palestine’s champion now seems certain.”

Sinwar stayed with his men fighting the Israeli occupation army until his last moments. An autopsy of his body showed that he had not eaten for three days!

Contrast this with Netanyahu’s conduct when Iran fired missiles at Tel Aviv in retaliation for Israeli war crimes. He fled and hid in a bunker like a rat!

The resistance story will be incomplete without mentioning the martyrdom of Hizbullah leader Seyyed Hasan Nasrallah on September 27, 2024. Iran’s revolutionary guards commander Abbas Niloforoushan was also martyred with him in Beirut.

The Hizbullah leader was martyred when the US sent a ceasefire proposal through intermediaries. The zionist war criminals bombed the entire complex that housed Hizbullah headquarters as senior officials met to discuss the proposal.

Similar treachery was displayed when zionist Israel attacked Iran on June 13, 2025 as the Islamic Republic was preparing for the sixth round of nuclear talks with the US. Dozens of Iranian revolutionary guards commanders and nuclear scientists together with more than 1,000 civilians were martyred in Israeli strikes that lasted 12 days.

These repeated attacks and assassinations were meant to demoralize the resistance front from continuing the struggle against zionist Israel. Did they succeed? All evidence points in the opposite direction. Far from being subdued by such losses, the martyrdom of top leaders and commanders has strengthened their resolve and nourished the revolutionary spirit.

So, what does it mean when it is said that a regional reset is uderway and what does it entail? This is the US-zionist wish list in which the Palestinians will be sidelined while Israel is integrated into the region. What this overlooks is the ground reality.

Egypt established diplomatic relations with the zionist entity in 1979. Jordan followed suit in 1994. Have the people of the two countries accepted zionist presence in their midst? The zionists are treated as pariahs, shunned by the masses and viewed with contempt.

The so-called Abraham accords that roped in four Arabian regimes into recognizing Israel in September 2020 has similarly failed to achieve acceptance even if the rulers have embraced the zionist war criminals. Talk of “regional reset” means getting more regimes to recognize the zionist entity. The Banu Saud in the Arabian Peninsula are seen as the biggest prize followed closely by Pakistan, a nuclear-armed state.

Contacts between the Banu Saud and Banu Israel, considered blood relatives by some observers, have gone on for many years. The Pakistanis too are being pushed in this direction. Even if the rulers take this step, the masses will not accept it because they see zionist Israel as an illegitimate entity, in illegal occupation of Palestine.

So, what can the resistance axis offer to thwart this diabolical plot? Despite suffering major losses, the resistance axis is being reorganized and re-energized for what is seen as an inevitable future conflict. Hizbullah has recovered from the losses and its ranks are being reorganized.

Islamic Iran, the major axis of resistance, is fully alert. It has learned from the bitter experience of trusting America’s word about talks. This should have been evident long ago. If the appropriate lessons are drawn even at this late stage and proper preparations are made, then all is not lost.

Iran’s leadership, both political and military, has served notice that if another war is imposed on them, the gloves would be off. Unlike the previous time, Iran will obliterate the zionist entity. No doubt, Iran will also suffer losses but it can bear them given the size of its landmass and its population.

The zionist entity is tiny and will be wiped out once Iran unleashes the full array of its missiles. Israel also suffers from deep internal contrictions. Many of its skilled workers have fled the country. Its economy is on the verge of collapse. The zionist entity is no longer a safe haven for Jews. In fact, it is the least safe place in the world for them.

The West Asian region may be on the verge of a reset but not the one envisaged by the predators and aggressors.
