I was shocked to read details about the effect of depleted uranium (DU) on people, especially children, in Iraq (Crescent International, July 2015). The increase in cancer rates in Iraq from 40 per 100,000 in 1991 to at least 1,600 per 100,000 in 2005 is truly alarming. “This is an increase of 4,000% over a 25-year period,” as your report points out. Not surprisingly, there is seldom any mention of these facts in the Western corporate media.
Iraq’s soil has been poisoned and will remain so for millions, perhaps billions, of years. These are crimes against humanity and American rulers, whether civilian or military, responsible for this must be charged with war crimes. Just because the US is militarily strong does not give it license to commit such crimes. The same goes for the Zionist regime in Occupied Palestine.
Perhaps a global campaign should be launched to put on trial such war criminals as George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, General Colin Powell and the Zionist rulers Shimon Peres and Benjamin Netanyahu. It is futile to expect the International Criminal Court to do so. Civil society groups must launch this campaign and try and arrest these war criminals whenever the opportunity arises.
