Modi Shows Bad Manners

Jill Cartwright

On his first visit to India, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had to wait for five days before his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi would see him. A low-level agricultural minister received Trudeau at the airport. Why such indifference to Canada, which is not a Third-World country? Millions of people of Indian origin have settled in Canada, among them nearly two million Sikhs.

Modi is ill-mannered and uncouth. He is so anti-social that he consumes his meals alone. That has not prevented him from bear-hugging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is equally obnoxious. The Hindu extremist believes that Trudeau is soft on Sikhs in Canada, whom he considers as “terrorists.” Modi’s India is trying to impose its oppressive policies on Canada, a move Trudeau and every Canadian government should strongly resist.

Despite the fact that his trip was meant to expand economic cooperation, Trudeau should draw appropriate lessons from his disastrous visit that many thoughtful Canadians including Muslims had warned against.
