Informational War post-Iran Strikes on US Bases in Iraq

Crescent International

Washington’s informational narrative of “no casualties” post-Iran strikes on its bases in Iraq is beginning to unravel.

After the Trump regime assassinated General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces of Iraq, Islamic Iran destroyed two US military bases in Iraq.

It was immediately evident that the very precise Iranian ballistic missile response was first and foremost political in nature.

Most experts agree that Iran’s ballistic missile response against US aggression is a small component of broader retaliation, which will be prolonged, regional and strategic.

Iran’s targeting of US bases is a paradigm shift, a Muslim country destroyed two large US military bases and Washington had to simply accept it, a phenomenon unthinkable just a few months ago.

Right after Iran’s retaliatory strikes, the Western corporate media which by default follows the official narrative of the regime, began playing down the Iranian missile response.

The main tactic in reducing the political and psychological impact of Iran’s missile response was focused on the fact that Tehran’s retaliation did not cause any US casualties.

The emphasis on this factor resembled a popular Turkish anecdote, where a man who got spat on his face began claiming that it was raining.

Parallel to Washington’s claim that the US suffered no casualties, the old takfiri anti-Iranian narrative was also actively employed on social media.

Gullible and sectarian minded Muslims were disseminating the narrative that the US and Iran are allies and cooperated in this latest “theatrics.”

As days went by, reports began to emerge of US casualties. The most direct admission came from Captain Bill Urban, spokesman for the US Central Command, in a statement admitting that “several were treated for concussion symptoms from the blast and are still being assessed.”

On January 19, a leading Arabic-language newspaper in Kuwait, Al-Qabas, reported that 16 US servicemen were transferred to a US military hospital in Kuwait following Iran’s retaliatory strike.

According to the middleeastmonitor “some of the casualties were suffering from severe burns and others had shrapnel wounds.”

While it would be difficult for the US regime to conceal deaths of its servicemen since relatives could leak this information out, it is not entirely impossible.

The US military could have easily issued a secret gag-order on casualties and directly intimidate through blackmail or other means anyone who would leak the unwanted information.

In 2016, Newsweek had reported that “days after U.S. Army Private First Class Bowe Bergdahl went missing from his base in Afghanistan in 2009, the men in his platoon were ordered to sign papers vowing to never discuss what he did or their efforts to track him down.”

The government of the only country to have used atomic weapons in 1945 and continues to spin it as a “necessity”, cannot be taken as a credible source when it comes to issues pertaining to its strategic interests.
