Exactly three years ago, the Egyptian pharaoh, ‘Abd el-Fattah el-Sisi, ordered the massacre of hundreds of innocent civilians in Cairo. Their only crime was that they were holding peaceful sit-ins at Rabi‘ah al-‘Adawiyah Square and Nasr City to protest the military coup overthrowing the legitimately elected government of President Muhammad Mursi.
The massacre was launched before Fajr Salah. Even when people sought refuge inside the Rabi‘ah al-‘Adawiyah Masjid, the uniformed goons did not stop. The blood splattered walls of the masjid and the surrounding pavements outside provided evidence of their criminal acts.
When funeral processions for victims of the massacre were held the following day in Port Said and Kafr al-Zayat, the army and police did not hesitate to attack them as well, killing several hundred more civilians. Shooting and killing civilians is a favorite pastime of the military in most Muslim countries.
These thugs in uniform have never fought an external enemy. Has the Egyptian military forgotten its humiliating defeat at the hands of the Zionists in June 1967? Aware that it cannot fight the Zionists, the military has simply capitulated under what is euphemistically called a “peace treaty.”
Far from hauling el-Sisi before the International Criminal Court to face war crime charges, he is welcomed in various capitals as a “respectable statesman.” He is neither respectable nor a statesman. He is a mass murderer and an agent of Zionism and imperialism.
