Emiratis Punching Way Above Their Weight

Zafar Bangash

From the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea and areas in-between such as Yemen and even beyond into the Horn of Africa, the Emirati Beduoins are spreading their tenticles. They are punching way above their weight and are likely to have a great fall. As the saying goes, the higher the monkey climbs, the harder it falls.

The Emiratis’ arrogance rests on their close alliance with the zionist war criminals that virtually run the Beduoin-controlled sheikhdom. Among Arabian zionists, the Emiratis lead the pack, surpassing even Egypt and Jordan—pioneers of the surrender brigade to zionist Israel.

Why are the Emiratis indulging in such destructive conduct and what motivates them to embrace the zionist war criminals? Both are impeccable enemies of Islam and the committed Muslims. While one can understand the zionists’ hatred of committed Muslims; they are the only ones standing up to zionist war crimes, especially in Gaza and the broader West Asian region, but what about the Emiratis?

They also have a pathological hatred of committed Muslims. There are no parties or groups in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) advocating for a system based on Islamic values. So, the Emiratis have gone outside their tiny sheikhdom to target committed Muslims, whether in Yemen, Sudan or elsewhere. They are acting as imperialists lite, on the shoulders of the zionists.

Let us consider what they have done over the years. Long before their formal embrace of the zionists in September 2020, through what is referred to as the ‘Abraham Accords’, the Emiratis had already established close links with Israel. The UAE security system was controlled directly by the Israeli Mossad through their base in Cyprus.

The UAE and Israel have an intelligence-sharing platform known as Crystal Ball, whereby they “design, deploy and enable regional intelligence enhancement” in partnership, according to a slide show designed to promote the pact.

This was admitted by Alon Pinkas, an Israeli diplomat who served as adviser to four foreign ministers. “The relationship between the UAE and Israel was very developed even before formal diplomatic relations were established, but it was kept quiet. Not secret, just quiet,” he told Middle East Eye.

After establishing formal diplomatic relations, the zionists came out of purdah and now operate openly in the UAE. The Israeli weapons manufacturer, Elbit Systems, not only opened offices in the UAE in 2021 but Abu Dhabi recently signed a $2.3 billion contract to buy advance defence equipment from it.

Two recent developments shed light on Emirati activities and the impact they have had in the region. In October, the Emirati-backed and armed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked el-Fisher in Sudan’s Darfur region and took control from the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The RSF immediately went on a rampage.

Witnesses and aid groups say RSF fighters have killed hundreds, perhaps thousands of civilians, and the fate of thousands more is unknown. Famine stalks the land as fighting prevents aid groups from operating.

While both the SAF and the RSF have been accused of committing atrocities, it is the latter whose conduct is particularly atrocious. Even the US, no friend of the Sudanese people, has accused the RSF of committing genocide with repeated mass killings and rapes. American intelligence reports say the UAE is arming the RSF. This makes the Emiratis complicit in the Darfur genocide.

Arms are shipped through Libya where the Emiratis have supported the renegade general, Khalifah Haftar—the self-appointed field marshal. Chad, the Central African Republic and South Sudan are other transit routes for arms shipments to the RSF.

What are the Emiratis upto in Sudan? They are stealing its gold—by the tons every year—and have taken over hundreds of thousands of acres of land along the Nile River to grow food that is shipped to the UAE.

The UAE’s largest listed corporation, International Holding Company, and Jenaan Investment Group now farm more than 50,000 hectares in Sudan. The people of Sudan, meanwhile, face starvation.

The Emiratis are also building a naval base on Sudan’s Red Sea coast with Israeli connivance. To understand its significance, we must bear in mind that the Ansarallah in Yemen have targeted ships carrying goods to zionist Israel during its genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. The Emiratis are doing Israel’s dirty work against the Palestinian people.

The Emiratis’ other disruptive move has been in Yemen. They joined the Saudis in attacking Yemen in March 2015, but fled the fight once they found it was tough going.

They brought RSF mercenaries from Sudan as well as from South America to fight the Ansarallah. That war theoretically ended in 2023 through a UN-brokered ceasefire but the Emiratis have not abandoned their mischief.

Forces of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) announced on December 3 that they had taken control of Seiyun, the largest city in Wadi Hadhramaut in eastern Yemen. The Emiratis’ duplicitous nature is exposed by the fact that the STC took control from the First Military Region forces. They are affiliated with the Ministry of Defense in the Saudi-UAE-backed Presidential Council government in Yemen.

The STC forces also advanced toward the al-Qatn district. Their aim is to secure control over the oil-rich desert and valley regions of Hadhramaut. Control of Yemeni oil has been the Saudi-UAE-US plan all along but the Emiratis have even betrayed the Saudis.

Their militarist activities, however, are not confined to Sudan and Yemen. They have spread their tentacles to the Socotra Archipelago in the Indian Ocean where they have established military bases with Israel’s help. Runways and aircraft hangers have been constructed on Socotra, Abd al-Kuri and Samhah.

The UAE does not have a huge maritime fleet. These island military bases are being used by Israel and the US against Islamic Iran and other countries opposed to zionist aggression and expansionism. The bases have not been constructed on territory formally held by the UAE.

In their hatred of Islam and Muslims, the Emiratis will embrace the devil. This is what they have done by relying on the zionist terrorists. They will pay a price for such treachery.
