On February 4, 2025, Michael Mostyn of B’nai Brith Canada passed away due to cancer.
Condolences for Mostyn have been pouring in from all supporters of the Israeli settler state.
Friends like Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre called him a real “Mensch,” with others referring to him as an “inspiring” man “not afraid to 'go against the grain'.”
For us in the Palestine solidarity movement, he was not a friend.
Mostyn attacked us relentlessly, taking a wrecking ball to our reputations and lives.
The trail of slander and destruction Mostyn left in his wake was truly exceptional.
Anyone who spoke of Palestinian human rights was a target for annihilation: students, teachers, postal workers, members of legislatures and Parliament, Muslims, writers, restaurants... anyone.
Mostyn’s passing marks the end of a leadership at B’nai Brith Canada that was truly dangerous for our movement.
Becoming CEO in 2014, he continued the legacy of his processor, Frank Dimant, in his singular commitment to Israeli apartheid and attacks on our movement.
For almost ten years, he was effectively able to leverage his hatred for Palestinians into effective “campaigns for consequences” against his enemies.
Now, with the unimpressive Richard Robertson at the helm, B’nai Brith Canada’s days as the most aggressive Israeli border guard appear to be over.
Mostyn may indeed be best remembered for his “I’m not an Islamophobe” speech before the Senate’s Standing Committee on Human Rights on February 13, 2023.
May his memory as a fanatical servant of the genocidal Israeli state be remembered by us all.
