Crescent Going Fully Digital

Zafar Bangash

After months of internal discussions, we have decided that Crescent International should stop the print edition altogether. While not an easy decision since we have been in regular print for the last 48 years, there are several reasons for this.

As our digital edition became more popular, most of our subscribers simply moved there. Over the years, postage costs have also continued to climb. The last time we increased our subscription rate was in 1983 — yes, 37 years ago! We often joked that we were working for Canada Post! While we tried to decentralize by printing in different parts of the world, the North American edition continued to drain our resources, hence our reluctant decision to stop the print edition.

While in the transition phase, we thought we would make another change as well. I have been on the editorial board since 2008. Prior to that I had served as editor from 1978 to 1998. This is a very long time for any one individual to be holding such a position. It is time to pass on this responsibility to younger people.

Starting with our March issue, I will no longer serve on the editorial board. Two new members — Jawwad Mulla and HayyYaqzan — will join the editorial team. I will continue to write, time permitting, but most of my energies would be concentrated on writing about aspects of the Sirah of the noble Messenger (pbuh) that would be useful to navigate this changing world
