Bani Saud not immune

Mohammed H. Siddiq

The Bani Saud may think they are unique but people in the Arabian Peninsula are beginning to speak out and demand change, writes a native son, Mohammed Siddiq.

For years it seemed Bani Saud were immune to political laws, that their rule was unique, enabling them to escape the pressures other states are subjected to. Their distorted interpretations of Islam, erroneously called ideology, left them free to disregard humane considerations that restrict policy choices elsewhere. No more.

Thousands of informed citizens — men and women — are now loudly demanding change. While they do not seek confrontation with the regime, they are demanding their rights as citizens, calling for equal treatment under the law. Unfortunately such rights currently do not exist under Bani Saud’s rule. King Salman must change for his own good or be prepared for the inevitable.
