Displaying their customary brutality and mind-boggling racism, the Israeli police on May 31 rammed their vehicle into a 12-year-old Palestinian child in Al Quds (East Jerusalem) causing him serious injuries.
What prompted this latest act of Zionist barbarism?
The child, Jawad al-Abbasi had committed the ‘unforgivable sin’ of placing a Palestinian flag on his bike.
Living in the Silwan neighborhood of Al Quds, Abbas was riding his bike to a nearby grocery store to buy bread when the Israeli police rammed their vehicle into his bike.
"I was on my bike to buy bread when three Israeli policemen chased me because I put the [Palestinian] flag on the bike,” Jawad al-Abbasi said in a report he provided to the Hadassah Hospital where he received treatment.
The boy suffered injuries to his head, neck, and leg.
The Israeli police held him at gun point and even beat him up, according to the young boy in his testimony to the Jerusalem-based Wadi Hilweh Information Center.
"I was afraid that they would shoot me or arrest me," he added.
The occupation regime’s police force refused to call the ambulance despite the child’s injuries.
Passers-by had to call the ambulance.
He fainted before reaching hospital.
Expressing well-founded fears that the Israeli police might come to arrest him at the hospital, he said “they might take me away before I get the necessary treatment".
His cousin, Issa al-Abbas who came to the scene after receiving a call about the child’s injuries, said “the police insisted on arresting him," but they eventually managed to take him to the hospital by ambulance.
"When we got to the hospital, the police came claiming that they had not run over him," Issa said.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates issued a statement condemning the attack by Israeli police on the Palestinian boy.
It described the incident as "an attempted murder and a heinous crime that rises to the level of crime against humanity," and held the Israeli regime fully responsible for it.
Since Israel’s latest assault on Gaza that ended on May 21, the Zionist regime has been arresting Palestinian youth from the West Bank as well as 1948 Palestine.
Fernand de Varennes, the UN Human Rights Rapporteur on Minority Issues, condemned attacks on Palestinian by extreme right-wing groups in Israel, including settlers with the backing of state security forces.
"Reports of extreme right-wing violence and disproportional use of force by law enforcement officials during protests in recent weeks, including in Sheikh Jarrah, Damascus Gate and Al-Aqsa Mosque, have led to some of the worst cases of violence against Palestinian citizens of Israel," he pointed out.
Illegal Zionist squatters, most of them recent immigrants from North America and Europe, have been pushing Palestinian families out of Sheikh Jarrah and the Silwan neighborhoods in Al Quds (Jerusalem).
Backed by the Israeli police, these Zionist thugs have violently thrown Palestinian families out of their homes where they have lived for decades.
Many Palestinian families have nowhere to go.
They are forced to sleep in the street. Their belongings have also been thrown out of the house with them.
