By attacking Iran’s civilian infrastructure—roads, bridges, electrical power plants, water desalination plants, hospitals and even an under-construction nuclear power plant—Donald Trump has only added to his long list of war crimes. A convicted felon, self-confessed rapist of underage girls, tax fraud and failed businessman, he is the typical product of American political culture.
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran denounced the US bombing of the under-construction Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant. “The terrorist and criminal US regime, whose nature is nothing but bullying and lawlessness, carried out an aggressive and barbaric act in violation of international law,” it said in a statement.
It is revealing that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has not condemned this latest US war crime and terrorist act authorized by Trump. In the past too, the IAEA refused to condemn the joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, abdicating its legal responsibility under the NPT.
The US military’s attacks in and around the Strait of Hormuz as well as in the north west of Iran are meant to cut these regions off from Tehran. This is part of the US plan to take control of the Strait of Hormuz. The US will fail in this diabolical plot, as it has in all its previous attempts including the two unprovoked illegal wars launched in the midst of negotiations.
Like Trump, most Americans are also quite ignorant, especially his MAGA base. Given their short retention span, he is counting on their unfamiliarity with ground realities.
While some Americans have made the connection between Trump’s war on Iran and high food and fuel prices, others are struggling to make ends meet. People have started to ask what happened to his promise to be a president of peace and end America’s “endless wars”. Instead, he has turned out to be a war president.
They have also witnessed ICE agents killing innocent people, execution-style in US cities. Fascism is in full swing in the US.
And Trump’s attempt to extort $1.8 billion from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for auditing his and his family’s tax returns was overturned by a US District Judge saying the suit was filed for an improper purpose. Trump had lodged a personal $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS, an agency under his control, and then made the $1.8 billion deal. This was to compensate the supposed victims of IRS’ unfair targeting.
With no end in sight for the war on Iran, people’s thinking has changed. The vast majority of Americans (66%) view the US-Israeli war of aggression on Iran as a qaugmire and want it ended soon even if the stated objectives—regime change, destroying Iran’s nuclear facilities and missiles—have not been achieved. At the same time, Trump has become one of the most unpopular presidents in US history.
For a narcissist like Trump, it matters. He indulges in endless self-praise and even believes it. The sychophants that surround him reinforce this perception. They dare not tell him the truth about how much the people hate him lest the orange orangutan hits a rage.
Hitherto, the average American was too engrossed in cost of living issues to pay much attention to the war. With the deaths and injuries of American soldiers in Jordan, the political stakes for Trump have escalated.
The US military admitted that two soldiers were killed, one is missing and scores injured in Iranian missile strikes on Muwaffiq Salti military base on July 17. The actual casualty figures may be higher.
In the coming days, more American soldiers are likely to be killed. These will only add to Trump’s political woes as the US heads to congressional elections in early November.
The Republican Party may lose control of both houses of congress. Should that happen, Trump’s impeachment cannot be ruled out.
Short of launching a ground invasion, there is little or no chance that the US can take control of the Strait of Hormuz. Geography matters. Iran has the longest shoreline along this vital waterway. The US is 10,000-12,000 km away. On what basis does Trump want to control the strait, apart from gangsterism and piracy?
Unlikely as a ground invasion is, even if Trump were to send ground troops—anything upward of 500,000 will be required, an unrealistic figure to mobilize—they will be walking into a death trap. Islamic Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and Army will eagerly await their arrival to send them to a painful death.
Imagine thousands of bodybags arriving in the US. And what will they die for? To protect the illegitimate zionist entity and Trump’s ugly face? The vast majority of Americans have no stomach for this. They are already tired of this unnecessary war.
Despite their ignorance, deliberately created by the drivel dished out to them on Fox News and CNN, they understand that Iran did not attack them. It is thousands of miles away from the US homeland. Instead, the US and Israel attacked Iran, twice.
The vast majority of Americans have also realized that Trump was pushed into the war against Iran by the indicted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu to protect zionist Israel. The Americans are sick and tired of financing the parasitical state and waging wars on its behalf.
If the US-Israel war on Iran had ended quickly after the evil duo eliminated their top leadership, most Americans would have treated it with a hardly repressed yawn. That did not happen. Instead, the Islamic Republic of Iran stood its ground and retaliated forcefully against American military bases in the region.
Almost all US bases have been severely degraded inflicting billions of dollars in damage. The Arabian regimes hosting these bases have also been hit and will continue to face retribution for facilitating US aggression. Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan are in the forefront of war crimes against Iran. The UAE is also deeply involved.
What the US fails to realize, despite some responsible Americans warning against attacking Iran, is that the people of Iran are steeped in the tradition of self-sacrifice and martyrdom. They have imbibed this spirit from Imam Hussain’s (عليه السلام) sacrifice at Karbala. The blood of every martyr simply strengthens their resolve.
The people of Iran are calling for revenge against the perpetrators of the crimes of assassinating their top leadership, 168 young school girls in Menab and thousands of other civilians. They are prepared to make every sacrifice to exact revenge.
Regrettably, there are no international institutions that will deliver justice. It is unrealistic to expect them to do so. These institutions were created to serve the interests of the genocidal western regimes, including the parasitical zionist entity.
The victims of western aggression will have to struggle hard to defeat them. Only then will they be able to go after the western regimes and their rulers to bring them to justice. In the past, victim societies let these criminals go scot-free whether in Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan.
It is time to institute a system of retributive justice so that war criminals are no longer able to enjoy impunity or immunity.
