In July 1995, the Serbian fascists perpetrated a genocide of thousands of Muslims in Srebrenica.
It was carried out in the presence of the so-called United Nations peacekeeping forces which far from protecting the victims, merely looked on.
The Serbs, led by general Ratko Mladic slaughtered more than 10,000 innocent Muslims in cold blood, among them children.
Some estimates put the death toll at 20,000.
The actual number will never be known since bodies are still being recovered 28 years later.
The Serbs’ slaughter of Muslims has earned the dubious distinction of being called the greatest genocide in Europe since the second world war.
Every July, the Srebrenica genocide revives painful memories for loved ones as new bodies are identified through DNA mapping in a special laboratory in Sarajevo.
This year was no different.
On July 8 and 9, thousands of Bosniaks lined up the streets of Sarajevo to pay respect to 30 more victims of the genocide whose bodies were identified through DNA sampling of mothers.
This has become a regular routine for the relatives of victims of Serbian fascism in which the collective west was fully complicity.
In particular, the Dutch and French troops, the supposed UN peacekeepers, watched while the Serbian fascists led by Mladic indulged in satiating their blood lust against innocent Bosnians.
A year before the genocide was carried out, the few thousand defenders of Srebrenica and a number of other towns—Zepa, Gorazde and Tuzla in eastern Bosnia—were first disarmed.
This was done under a “deal” brokered by the UN.
The UN had pledged that “peacekeeping forces” will protect these enclaves.
This was the first deal in history in which the victims were asked to surrender their weapons while the aggressors were allowed to keep theirs.
If it is true that the genocide in Bosnia could not have been perpetrated without help from the UN, then it is even more so concerning the slaughter in Srebrenica.
Similarly, the British regime was complicit in the Bosnians’ genocide.
Then British Defence Secretary Malcolm Rifkind, a hardcore zionist, adamantly opposed the lifting of arms embargo on Bosnia when the US Senate voted to lift it.
Rifkind argued that it would prolong the war and the west would have to withdraw its “peacekeeping” forces.
Rifkind’s concern would be touching had it not been for the fact that western peacekeeping forces were not there to protect the so-called safe havens.
These were shooting galleries, as the US Secretary of State Warren Christopher described them at the time in which the Bosnians were herded to be mercilessly slaughtered by the Serbian butchers.
This is what happened between July 11-16, 1995.
Mladic ordered his troops to slaughter the Bosnian men and some children.
The initial order was issued on July 6 as Serbian fascist forces stormed Bosnian homes burning and pillaging.
Most Bosnian women were transported out and dumped in other parts of Bosnia.
Others had to walk tens of miles across difficult mountain passes to reach safety.
Scores of Bosnian women were raped.
Estimates of the number of Bosnian women raped during the war on Bosnia from April 1992 to November 1995 range from 50,000 to 60,000.
The bodies of the Bosnian men massacred in Srebrenica were dumped into mass graves in different parts outside the town.
Many bodies were mutilated.
Since the bodies were bull-dozed, the victims’ body parts were scattered in different graves.
The extent of the genocide became known from satellite photos that showed vast areas of disturbed ground.
When the war ended through the Dayton Accord imposed on the Bosnians in December 1995, it left them at the non-existent mercies of the Serbs and Croats.
Today, Bosnia-Herzegovina is governed by a strange system of a rotating presidency.
A Bosniak, Serb and Croat take turns to be presidents in any particular term of the presidency.
The Bosnians are a majority but they are forced to live under this unfair system.
The Serbs have even carved out an autonomous republic within Bosnia-Herzegovina that they call the Republic of Srpska.
It exists in two separate entities: one in the north and the other in the east of the country.
This monstrosity has been imposed on Bosnia-Herzegovina through the Dayton Accord although the Serbs had declared their separate entity in 1992.
