The Ikhwan

Seyfeddine Ahmed

The Arabic word ikhwan means brothers. Al-Ikhwan al-Muslimoon (Muslim Brotherhood) was the first Islamic movement to emerge after the khilafah was abolished by Mustafa Kemal in Turkey. The Ikhwan have paid an enormous price for their struggle and in the process, they have had to make painful compromises. One wished they hadn’t. If they had remained faithful to their ideals, there is a good chance they would be much further ahead. Islamic movements everywhere should learn from their mistakes.
