Terrorists attack Majlis and Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum in Tehran

Tehran, Wednesday June 7, 2017

Four terrorists armed with guns and pistols attacked the Majlis (Parliament) in Tehran today (June 7) while simultaneously, three terrorists attacked the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in south Tehran.

Three terrorists were involved in the attack on the Imam’s mausoleum with one of them, a female suicide bomber, blowing herself up at the western entrance to the huge complex.

The Fars news agency said in a Twitter post that three terrorists attacked Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum, opening fire on people inside and wounding a number of them.

The news agency further said one of the assailants has been killed, another blew herself up and a third one has been injured.

According to security officials, a suicide bomber’s explosive vest has also been discovered and deactivated in the vicinity of the mausoleum.

Meanwhile, at the Majlis premises, four assailants intruded into the building, opening fire on security guards there.

Tasnim news agency reported that at least eight people have been injured in the shooting by terrorists. Two other people have been killed.

Press TV quoted Tehran MP Elias Hazrati as saying that the terrorists were armed with two Kalashnikovs and a handgun.

Another lawmaker, Mehdi Kiaee said the situation was under control inside the parliament, while security forces are working to restore calm there. Anti-Terror Special Forces have been deployed to the Majlis premises.

ISNA quoted an MP as saying that all the parliament doors are shut and one of the assailants has been surrounded by security guards. His capture alive would provide important information about the identity of the terrorists.

Even as the security forces grapple with the twin terrorist attacks, the question of the assailants’ identity is being debated.

There are three possible groups that could be responsible for this dastardly crime. All of them are Saudi and/or American-backed.

The first and foremost group under suspicion is the Baluch separatists that have been carrying out attacks against Iran’s border guards on the country’s long border with Pakistan. These terrorists also receive funding and other support from the Saudis.

Two other groups—the takfiri terrorists and MKO terrorists—could also be involved. We need to recall that on May 2, the brash Saudi Defence Minister Muhammad bin Salman had openly boasted on Saudi television that his country would take the war inside Iran.

The takfiri terrorists are the product of the Saudi terror factory and have caused havoc in much of the region. Suicide bombings are their signature mark.

The third group could be the MKO terrorists, better known as the munafiqeen. They receive strong backing from the US and have also in recent years been embraced by the Saudis.

We will continue to report as more information becomes available.
