Sultan Mehmet II

Muhammad Ali Siddiqi

Re: “Islamophobic view of Turkey’s history” by HayyYaqzan (CI, Nov. 2019). The learned writer’s piece was worth reading and devoid of prejudice. However, there was a factual mistake: Sultan Mehmet II did not die in 1446 as mentioned; the Fatih (Liberator) took Istanbul in 1453 and died in 1480.

Thank you for pointing this out; we need to do better fact-checking – editor.
