Source of knowledge and guidance

Tanvir Ahmed

Muslims should be seeking guidance from the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (saws) rather than clinging to old notions.

There appears considerable confusion among Muslims about where they should turn to for knowledge and guidance. Under Western pressure, Muslims are being driven from one extreme — the Wahhabi nonsense — to another extreme — empty spirituality where anything goes. Muslims should turn to the noble Qur’an and the Sunnah and the Sirah of the noble Messenger (pbuh) for guidance. A word of caution: most English-speaking Muslims go to ‘Abdullah Yusuf ‘Ali’s translation of the Qur’an. I would recommend Muhammad Asad’s translation. Those interested in a deeper understanding, please get Imam Muhammad al-‘Asi’s tafsir, The Ascendant Qur’an: Realigning Man to the Divine Power Culture. I have found it absolutely inspirational.
