Non-Sectarian Reflections Of the Husaini Spirit Amidst Another Contemporary Karbala And ‘Ashura

All praise and thanks are due to Allah that the Islamic Republic of Iran recovered rapidly after aggression against it by Zionist Israel and its spy network on Day 1.

Despite dealing a major blow/set-back to the Eretz Israel project, the Islamic Republic is navigating troubled and treacherous waters.

Comments from some well-meaning Muslims that “Iran failed to finish the job or to request a ceasefire for Gaza while winning” are not helpful.

Likewise, well-meaning Muslims accusing “the Sunnis of being cowards who display the Marwan and Yazidi spirit while the Shias display the Kufi spirit” are damaging, to say the least.

Rather, that “both, Sunnis and Shi‘is, have failed the Husaini Spirit” needs reflection.

Before reflecting on the Husain spirit, an observation that should be made is that the Sunnis are not cowards.

There are Sunnis in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) who were there before the war, during the war and they are still there after the war.

It is more accurate to say that it is the Umawis who are masquerading as Sunnis who are the cowards.

If we recall, according to one historical narrative, Imam Husain did not set out for war.

By standing up to the corruption of the Umawi regime, Imam Husain had placed it in a reactionary mode.

Its reaction was violent and brutal. The regime was on the war path.

These events were moving towards a climax during ash’hur al hurum/the sanctified months and that they actually climaxed during Muharram, a shahr al haram/sanctified month, was irrelevant to the regime.

According to the above historical narrative, when Imam Husain realized that the support he was led to believe he had was not really there, he sought to negotiate safe passage for him and his small group of followers.

But there’s another narrative; the real deal if we speak about the Husaini spirit—a spirit that does not include any ceasefire talks.

According to this understanding of the Husaini spirit, if winning the physical war is the objective then no-one should say that “Iran failed to finish the job” because Imam Husain was martyred without finishing the job too.

It is the brutal Umawi state that wins the physical battle.

Imam Husain wins the hearts; he wins the higher ground; he wins the moral war; he wins the ethical war; most importantly, he wins Allah’s acceptance.

He wins everything except the physical battle to topple the Umawi state.

This unfinished job of Imam Husain against the terrorist Umawi state corruption remains the unfinished business of history till today.

Many, if not all the precedents set by the Umawi state are in vogue all over the world where there are “Muslim” regimes except in the Islamic Republic in Iran.

The force of these Umawi traditions in statecraft are so strong and stubborn that apparently functionaries in the Foreign Ministry in Iran take their diplomatic cue from the Umawis too.

Even Muslims who try to climb the political ladder when they find themselves under non-Muslim governments get their training from the Umawis.

They definitely are not schooled by Imam Husain!

So all these types fail the Husaini spirit!

And the Husaini spirit is derived directly from the Prophetic spirit.

This is un-mistakable if one cares to read the seerah of a struggling Prophet in the context of disposition, dislocation and powerlessness.

Hence, it is contradictory to comment about the failure of the Husaini spirit by “Iran failing to request a ceasefire for Gaza...”

In the Husaini spirit there definitely is no request going to the courts and thrones of oppressors.

Consequently there is no expectation of the oppressor to ceasefire until these oppressors decapitate the leader/leadership.

Strictly speaking, even seeking a ceasefire on behalf of Gaza is a failure of the Husaini spirit. In fact, even the Palestinians themselves, seeking a ceasefire is a failure of the Husaini spirit.

In living the Husaini spirit, the price to be paid is Imam Husain’s head.

But let’s revisit the revisionist historical narrative, (the first narrative).

If Imam Husain realized that he did not have the support he was led to believe he had and thus sought safe passage for himself and his followers, then perhaps that is what has come out of this 12 day war.

Just like when Imam Husain faced off against the Umawi regime and found that he barely had any support, any analysis that seeks to draw parallels must factor in that most of the rockets and missiles were intercepted by the Umawi regimes in Jordan, Qatar, UAE, Syria and Jordan (other countries on the geographical path between Tehran and Israel were also involved).

And then, delving into the eschatological literature, it appears that the Husaini spirit is subverted by the anticipation of the Mahdi spirit.

In this game, people are waiting for the Mahdi or preparing for the Mahdi... but very few are doing what the Mahdi will do.

Hence the real question becomes: is the Husaini spirit subverted?

When Imam Ali was asked, “how is it that under you we are facing myriad problems which we did not face under Abu Bakr and Umar?” he replied, “because they were leading men like me while I am leading men like you!”

Fast forward to today.

Imam Khamanei is virtually facing the same question.

The Muslims don’t have a problem with the chain of command.

The problem is with the chain of obedience!

Our fervent invocation to Allah is that Imam Khamanei lead another Islamic Revolution in Iran to flush out the Iranian Nationalists and sectarian Shi‘i firsters out of the Foreign Ministry and other sensitive institutions and positions in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

If the hand of Imam Khamanei is not strengthened sufficiently, round two of the war by the anti/counter-Islamic civilization against the Islamic Republic will have devastating consequences not only for it, but for Muslims everywhere.

Muslims should no longer get carried away with numbers. “Islam is the fastest growing religion”. “Muslims are 2 Billion,” etc.

While such sentiments certainly make a Muslim feel good, Allah takes us back to the facts of life: وَاذْكُرُوا/remember … you are قَلِيلٌ/few in number and … you are مُّسْتَضْعَفُونَ/oppressed…

These Divine words accurately depict the reality of the Muslims of vitality, struggle, sacrifice and commitment—in other words the Islamic Resistance.

Those who do not stand in support of the Islamic Resistance are aloof of the Husaini spirit and are, as Allah’s Prophet put it ... بل أنتم كثير، ولكنكم غثاء كغثاء السيل... ... despite being large in number, the scum that has no weight/substance and just goes with the flow...

“And be aware of the time when you were few [and] helpless on earth, fearful lest people do away with you – whereupon He [Allah] sheltered you, and strengthened you with His [successful] support, and provided for you sustenance out of the hearty things of life, so that you might have cause to be grateful.” (The Ascendant Qur’an, Surat Al Anfal, verse 26).
