MKO: the US’s favourite terrorist outfit

The US keeps company with numerous shady outfits worldwide. Take the case of the Zionist regime that is dominated by war criminals and mass murderers but it is the one regime closest to Washington. It is lavishly financed by the US even while an estimated 46 million Americans languish in poverty.

There is another terrorist outfit that the US has very close connections with: the Mujahideen-e Khalq Organization (MKO) that is popularly known as the Munafiqeen. The group was officially taken off the US list of terrorist organizations on September 28. It had been placed on the State department terrorist list in 1997.

The MKO has been responsible for hundreds of terrorist acts in Iran during the decade of the eighties in which some 17,000 Iranian officials and civilians were murdered by this gang of criminals.

The group was responsible for the murder of an elected Iranian president, a prime minister, the country’s chief justice, 19 lawmakers and hundreds of other including ministers, scholars and academics in 1981.

Its most recent terrorist act was when members of this outfit attacked an Iranian diplomat outside the United Nations building in New York on September 26 while the police looked on making no arrests. Ramin Mehmanparast, spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry who had accompanied President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was in New York when the MKO terrorists assaulted him.

The New York police took no action against the MKO terrorists involved in the attack despite the fact that the safety and security of foreign diplomats attending the UN session is the responsibility of the US government and its agencies. “The American government should be answerable for the assault on our country’s Foreign Ministry spokesman and severely punish the agents of this insult,” said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman of Iran Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, on September 27.

The senior lawmaker noted that according to international laws and the Vienna Convention, the US is responsible for the safety of all delegations that officially visit that country.

On September 21, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had sent a directive to Congress notifying it that the American regime planned to delist the terrorist outfit despite its long record of terrorist crimes, the most recent of which occurred in New York just outside the UN building.

So how does the US decide what constitutes terrorism and what group to put on its list? Simple. Any group that opposes US-zionist crimes is branded as terrorist. Thus, Hizbullah, Hamas etc are branded as terrorist groups even though they are struggling to liberate their lands from foreign (Zionist) occupiers. Groups that advance the American agenda are delisted.

The MKO falls under this category. It has also been giving money to many US congress members. Some have been taken on trips overseas and paid huge stipends for appearing in MKO organized programs. In US politics, money truly talks.

The MKO were housed in Camp Ashraf in Iraq’ Diyala province by the regime of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Husain. After his overthrow, the Americans provided the MKO protection even though officially it was designated a terrorist organization.

The MKO has a dubious history. It is a cult-like organization. Currently headed by Maryam Rajavi, it is believed that its former head, Massoud Rajavi who had a squeaky girlist voice, has been dead for many years. He has not been seen in public for many years.

Maryam was previously married to another member of the MKO but Massoud took a liking for her so the other member divorced her and Maryam became Massoud’s wife. Many MKO members are believed to held against their will.

Now that the US has officially delisted it as a terrorist organization, we are likely to see more of its criminal acts against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The US liking for terrorist outfits has also come out to light with its open embrace of al-Qaeda, especially in Syria. Thus, the US is now working in tandem with not one but two terrorist organizations plus the Zionist terrorist regime occupying Palestine.
