Economic destabilization of the US, inadvertently initiated by the most incompetent person to occupy the White House to date, presents a unique opportunity for the global majority to begin reshaping the world economy.
It is now widely acknowledged, even among pro-US circles, that Donald Trump significantly destabilized the American imperialist machinery.
While America has been in steady imperial decline in geopolitical and military terms since it launched the War of Terror in 2001, its economic deterioration has markedly accelerated over the past five years.
Today, the decline has reached a stage where it is simply impossible to deny it, even by the staunchest proponents of US hegemony.
It should be understood that the core proposition of American hegemony rested on its claim to offer a materially prosperous life to its subjects and external surrogates.
The entire concept of the “American Dream” was grounded in Washington’s ability to deliver some form of material prosperity.
All the rhetoric about liberty, democracy, and similar ideals, which was enthusiastically echoed by the beneficiaries of US imperialism, was largely sustained because aligning with Washington brought material and economic rewards.
This is no longer the case.
Nevertheless, as pointed out by prominent Indian intellectual and activist Vijay Prashad, “the first thing to remember is that the BRICS project is actually quite modest. It’s not to change the world — that was never the project.”
Prashad, however, accurately points out that BRICS’s aim to boost trade within the Global South has largely been achieved successfully.
His precise observations, combined with numerous other indicators, make it clear that there has not been a more opportune moment in the past 25 years to economically isolate US imperialism before it resorts to instigating senseless regional wars to preserve its global hegemony.
Today, a powerful global majority exists with the capacity to initiate economic containment of US imperialism.
Moreover, the Trump regime has inadvertently opened multiple fronts against US imperialism —fronts that would have otherwise taken the anti-imperialist camp a decade of effort to establish.
Washington now faces mounting pressure not only from its rivals and enemies but also from its traditional allies.
However, the unique opportunity to shield both the world and the American people from the recklessness of US imperialism lies not in sheer force or even in taking decisive action against it, but rather in a distinct strategy: simply moving away from the US and rendering it irrelevant once again.
All that the global majority—both in the developing and developed worlds—needs to do is step away from the US to the extent that each country can afford.
Through a simultaneous and deliberate withdrawal, Washington would be transformed into a political outcast, forcing it to seek the “attention” of others.
While there is a risk that the US might attempt to regain influence through military or security destabilization, should this occur while America remains isolated, its internal political dynamics would likely cause it to implode from within.
The Trump regime is already facing significant pressure from within the American political establishment.
The so-called “liberal” faction among the ruling elite is determined to see Trump politically humiliated and would seize any opportunity presented by foreign adversaries to advance this goal.
Strategically, ita internal divisions represent the most valuable asset for the global majority seeking to disengage from the destructive grip of US global hegemony.
The widespread global distrust and contempt for the US, fueled by the Trump regime’s ignorance, have created an unprecedented opening: by collaborating less with the United States and more with alternative partners, the world can subdue US influence without resorting to drastic measures.
Ironically, such a global shift would ultimately benefit American citizens as well.
It would force regimes in Washington to abandon wasteful and reckless foreign policies and instead focus on addressing the decay undermining the US from within.
