The people of Libya have experienced no peace since the western-backed campaign to oust him from power was launched in April 2011. Colonel Muammar Qaddafi was murdered in cold blood but ruthless criminals have taken over killing innocent people.
How shocking that Libya continues to be gripped by turmoil after the NATO-led bombing campaign to overthrow and then murder Colonel Muammar Qaddafi of Libya in October 2011. Is this what freedom and democracy look like: to unleash gangsters and criminals on the hapless Libyan people (who appeared to be better off with Qaddafi)? Large parts of the country are under the control of armed militias; thugs would be a better description. These thugs go around kidnapping and killing people at will. There is no central government authority and ordinary people have nowhere to turn to seek help or redress.
Unfortunately there is no rule of law or any court where the traumatized people of Libya can turn to for justice. The UN Security Council “no-fly” resolution was badly twisted and abused by the US and its NATO allies. Their agenda was the overthrow of Qaddafi so that they could grab Libya’s resources. The people were left to the non-existent mercies of thugs. If there were any justice, US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron and former French President Nicolas Sarkozy would be put on trial as war criminals. Instead they call themselves world statesmen! What a disgrace.
