A leading Israeli rabbi, whose name has not yet been made public, has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting his three teenage daughters for more than 10 years.
The rabbi is charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and invasion of privacy, Israel's Ynet news website reported on March 27. The website also said he was arrested 10 days ago but has been remanded in custody for two additional days.
The rabbi’s crimes began 10 years ago when he started molesting his young daughters that are now between the ages of 12 and 14. In indictments filed in the Jerusalem District Court, the rabbi sexually abused one of the elder daughters for two years, despite her pleas to her father not to do so. Sometimes the rabbi played tricks with them and on other occasions he threatened them. The frightened young girls were left devastated.
The rabbi started telling the girls they could sleep naked together. The young girls, who did not suspect their own father of any ill intentions, and a rabbi to boot, complied. Little did they realize that he would sexually abuse them, not once but continue with such ghastly behavior for a decade. What kind of moral teachings would a rabbi impart to his flock when this is his behavior toward his own daughters?
The Israeli society has other disturbing features. Almost all Zionists are alien to Palestine. Within its religious establishment, however, there are some that not only provide sanction to such immoral behavior, they also indulge in it themselves, as the rabbi’s indictment shows. In November 2011, the former Israeli president Moshe Katsav was found guilty of sexually assaulting a female staff member working in his office. After a long court battle, he was sentenced to seven years in jail. Throughout his trial, Katsav insisted he had done nothing wrong. In a sense, he was right; this kind of behavior is very common in Israeli society. It is most prominent in the military where females are present in large numbers.
The pervert rabbi had other “fanciful” habits as well. He placed a video camera in her daughter’s room to watch her undress and shower. What kind of father would do that to his own daughter? But it should not come as a surprise since he was sexually abusing his own daughters for nearly a decade.
An important point to keep in mind about this episode is that if this crime were perpetrated by a Muslim scholar, the global mainstream media would make this the main news headline of the week.
