While much of the Western world has been extolling the nonexistent virtues of Indian democracy, one aspect hitherto overlooked is the number of candidates facing serious criminal charges. Surprisingly, CNN reported this. 1,500 candidates in the elections faced such serious charges as rape, murder, kidnapping, and other horrific crimes. At least 19% of the accused got elected. Welcome to India’s parliament of criminals.
