Helping Yemen

Tariq Salim

Since the harrowing scenes of starving Yemeni children have been shown on television screens, a number of charitable organizations in Canada have sprung into action to help them. Admirable as this is, there are some questions that must be asked. What took these organizations so long to realize there was a tragedy raging in Yemen? Surely, the Saudi-led war on Yemen was not launched in October 2018, following the gruesome murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Why were they inactive since March 2015 when the war was first unleashed?

Second, how are they going to ensure that food and medicines reach the most needy while preventing the Saudi-backed mercenaries from stockpiling them for their own benefit? We have not been able to get any clear answers from these organizations. They need to be more forthcoming.
