Global refugee crisis

Tahira Parveen

1

Letter writer Tahira Parveen suggests that we should look at those countries causing the crises that force people to flee their home to understand the refugee problem.

There are millions of refugees in the world. They are fleeing wars and persecution. Most refugees are from the Muslim East. Others are fleeing wars in North and West Africa. Should we not ask why these people — many of them women and children — are forced to flee their homes and what the international community’s responsibility toward them is? Holding a UN summit may be one way, but it is far more important to dig deeper and ask why people are forced to flee their homes. Who is responsible for causing instability in their countries? Would that not be a better approach to dealing with the problem?
