Enemy’s ‘intellectual, cultural and political infiltration most serious threats to Islamic Iran’: Rahbar

Crescent International

The Rahbar has warned officials in the Islamic Republic that they should be vigilant against the enemy's 'intellectual, cultural and political infiltration.' He said this was more dangerous than economic infiltration. The Rahbar's warning came against the backdrop of the JCPOA that has led people including some officials in the Islamic Republic to assume that the US would be welcomed back in Iran.

Identifying the major threats faced by the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Rahbar, Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei warned the enemy’s “intellectual, cultural and political infiltrations were the major threats facing the Islamic Republic.”

The Rahbar was addressing commanders and officials of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Tehran on Wednesday. “Economic and security infiltration is not as important” compared to the ones he identified.

For three decades, the US tried threats, force, sanctions, and also unleashed a war against the Islamic Republic through the regime of Saddam Husain, all to little avail.

The Rahbar’s comments were made against the backdrop of Iran’s agreement with the P5+1 group of countries that was signed in Vienna on July 14. Referred to as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), it has led to wild speculation that the West, especially the US would be welcomed in Iran. The US would love nothing better than to infiltrate Iran not with a view to conduct itself in a civilized manner but to find ways to undermine the Islamic system of government.

For three decades, the US tried threats, force, sanctions, and also unleashed a war against the Islamic Republic through the regime of Saddam Husain, all to little avail. After it found total failure in its sanctions regime and realized that the Islamic Republic was getting stronger by developing a resistance economy, the US panicked. It had to do something to break the self-created logjam. The Obama regime sought the help of Oman to broker a deal.

While States maintain relations, the Islamic Republic has to be extra vigilant because it has had bitter experience at the hands of the US and Britain. The best defense against such infiltration is awareness and not exposing itself to the machinations of the enemies. This is what the Rahbar was referring to. He expressed confidence in such institutions as the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) to firmly stand up to security infiltration but he also urged authorities to remain vigilant for economic infiltration.

The Rahbar pointed out that cultural infiltration is achieved when the beliefs that underpin an Islamic society like that in Iran are distorted and undermined. The West then offers its hedonistic culture that undermines the values and morals of an Islamic society. Political infiltration is achieved when the enemy tries to sneak into decision-making centers, the Rahbar warned.

What is the consequence of such political infiltration? “… The direction in which that country moves will be according to the will of hegemonic powers,” not those of its people. “If we are watchful, the enemy will be disappointed.”

He emphasized that serious efforts must be made to further reinforce the foundation of the Islamic Revolution and of a revolutionary way of thought.

“This is the fundamental responsibility of the IRGC’s elite and all revolutionary elite in the country,” advised the Rahbar.
