Western culture tends to produce narcissists and exhibitionists. Unfortunately some converts to Islam bring this disease with them. This is especially true of some white converts. They jet-set to conferences insisting on traveling in business class, staying in five-star hotels and walk around with an entourage of admirers.
Such conduct is contrary to the teachings of Islam and the Sunnah of our beloved Messenger (pbuh). He was a modicum of modesty who easily mixed with the people around him. He asked for no special privileges. This was evident from his participation in the construction of al-Masjid al-Nabawi as well as digging the trench prior to the Battle of al-Ahzab. We pray that these celebrity preachers would come down to earth and begin to live the true Islam as demonstrated by the noble Messenger (pbuh).
