Al-Jubeir’s escapades

Amr al Otaibi

In the West, this would not be big news but in Saudi Arabia it would cause an earthquake: Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir is gay. His wife, Farah al-Fayez, has filed for divorce in a London court. The story was first reported by the Kuwait daily, al-Qabas, last September but it has resurfaced again.

Ms. Fayez said her ex-husband had been enmeshed in public disgrace by taking part in “obnoxious male parties in Thailand.” She said she and her four children were devastated. “My worst nightmare has materialized; I received the shock of my life by finding undeniable proof and Adel has finally admitted it himself… I believe any marital crisis is dreadful, but the discovery that you have a homosexual and mendacious husband can throw your whole world into a tailspin…”

Will there be an announcement from the royal court that al-Jubeir has been sentenced to death by stoning?
