Afghan (non)Peace

Mansoor Ali Khan

The chances of peace in Afghanistan are sabotaged by US officials. Gen. John Nicholson, the last US commander there, said before leaving Kabul that there was no military solution to the conflict. He urged the Taliban to agree to peace talks. The Taliban have laid down their conditions: all US troops must leave under a given timetable and no US military bases in the country. Can the Americans accept these conditions? Washington continues to indulge in duplicitous behavior; hence peace continues to elude the poor Afghans.
